Yes, the later levels lean more on the puzzle side but there's still enough shooting to make it worth it, my only real issue is with the last "normal" boss battle where the boss uses the same dodge move you have but it isn't really clear when you can actually inflict damage again
Checks pretty much all the boxes for a Devolver game. A frantic, 2D shooter with a heavy hallucinatory vibe. Unfortuantely, MFP doesn't really stand up to its predecessors like Hotline Miami.
I'll start with a few positives: the soundtrack is great and the first few levels are a lot of fun.
Moving on to the negatives...
I don't want to beat a dead horse, so I'm just going to call out that I wholeheartedly agree with the numerous other reviews indicating that MFP rapidly loses momentum after the first few levels and becomes a real snooze by the end.
This is total conjecture, but MFP feels very much like it suffered from "feature creep" to me. The core gameplay loop starts very simple: dual wield, time slow, dodging. By the end, things are so hectic that the developers felt the need to have the banana popup like an in-game ad to remind you that you have certain abilities because you haven't used them in so long. You can disable this feature, I'm not complaining about the popup, I'm complaining about the fact that it's even necessary. I really wish they had kept the player's abilities/weapons constant so that you can master them as the game progresses and instead increase the level difficulty, which honestly hardly ramped at all aside from a few platforming puzzles.
Lastly, I'm going to call out the lack of mod support here, which is actually a very frequent gripe I have with these types of games from Devolver. A commmunity map editor would probably make this game worth it at current price, otherwise wait for a sale because you're only gonna get a couple hours out of this unless you replay the handful of fun levels A LOT.
Overall rating of three stars because it's competent and fun enough that I played it through to the end. Definitely not a bad game, just very mediocre and disappointing.

Lots of moments that'll make you go "niiiiice" and have you wanting to do more

The humor almost ALWAYS fall flat and makes you cringe a bit
There's a sudden lull in the game that outstays its welcome where you just do platforming and it is extremely not fun
What you got here is a 2D twin stick shooter that favours style over substance. The premise is simple. You play as some dude who can see a talking banana (Pedro) who encourages him to go on a gangsters killing spree. That's it! On top of that, the visuals aren't much to look at either, leaving you with the game-play. And for any platform shooter fan, this will really scratch the itch. Instead of blasting your way from level to level, the game encourages you to dive, jump and flip while utilising the slow down mechanic. Overall, the fun is in having to pull of these stylish, badarse manoeuvres along with using the environment and array of weapons to your advantage.
I did have fun, it is just different enough to keep me engaged. However, I had to endure multiple crashes again and again. Real shame, because I would have loved to squeeze more out of this. Worth the price if you like your twin stick shooters.
