It crashes for me every 15 minutes or so. So you end up doing the same thing over and over again, depending when you last saved it. Sometimes, it crashes at the end of a battle so you don't even get the chance to save during the battle. The game itself would be fun, but it simply is not playable in its current form. I was waiting for the bugs to be worked on before buying, and given the price now and that it's been over two years on release I assumed it would now be ok. Unfortunately, it simply doesn't work. The in-game general bugs i can handle, but not the constant crashing. It would be a fun game, so I hope they can fix it.
I'm not quite sure what rating to give the game, so I'm giving it a rating based on where I would expect an early access title to be, and on what I think the finished product will be.
At the moment, it's fun but incomplete, and needs a lot of balancing. That's perfectly alright, because it's still early access. All of those things will come. It reminds me of the best of Mount & Blade, with significantly better graphics and a framework that, when complete, looks like it will have really good character development, kingdom management, and combat. Other reviews have described what combat in M&B is like, so I'll just add my agreement that this game already feels very familiar. I absolutely loved the earlier games because I basically got to be an active participant in a slightly less strategically complex version of a Total War battle. This has always been the biggest draw to the series, and it's shaping up well in Bannerlord.
My only complaint is the main mission. It's terrible. It's boring; part of it is annoying (find and talk to 10 specific people); and it's not optional, timing out if not completed withing a certain amount of days. This doesn't belong in a sandbox game, and I hope it gets a major re-work before release.
I know others have said this already, and have probably said it better, but these are really the only words to describe this game. This is a worthy sequel to the original Mount & Blade and a glorious continuation of the franchise.
On the positive side, Bannerlord preserves the addicting medieval combat of previous entries in the series, while simultaineously expanding on strategic elements such as commanding troops and developing your lands. The game now features a story-based campaign slongside the sandbox-style campaign of the original game, and the excessive difficulty, grinding, and lack of direction that often characterized the early game in previous entries have largely been eliminated, making this entry far more noob-friendly. Graphics are jaw-droppingly gorgeous, on a level you would generally associate with a major AAA developer rather than a fairly small indie studio. The soundtrack and sound effects are likewise a high point of this game, contuing the series' excellent track record in this department.
The only real downside to my experience with this game so far has been multiplayer. There seem to be almost no populated public games no matter what time of day you try to find one, and the few that I did manage to find tended to suffer from rude players who would berate you for minor infractions or kick vote you without warning.
Overall, Bannerlord is a must-play title for fans of RPGs, medieval-style worlds, or just anyone who wants to support an indie-studio with AAA skills. Just don't buy it exclusively as a multiplayer title.
Bannerlord is a hard game to review. There are many things I really like about it, while there are a number of things that really, really bother me.
The game has a large world. The developer has been reworking many of the locations, making them unique.
I like the concept of traveling through the world in a 3D-map style, while switching to a 1st person view for the battles.
The medieval battles are one of the main highlights in the game, being unique and having the potential to be in a really large scale.
Meanwhile, there's very little interaction with this large and beautiful world. The quests are always the same bunch of repeated chores. There are almost no unique NPCs. Lords react to your actions in a very limited and robotic way. Many times, it feels like you aren't really in control of your troops. For example, you can create parties, but there's no interaction to direct their efforts.
The lack of these interactions and the repetitive nature of the quests makes the world feel like a large, but half-empty bucket. Personally, I would have preferred that the developer invested more time in filling the world with noteworthy interactions first, so that we could have a smaller, but full bucket.
And of course, there are MODs, many of which are really good. But I'm reviewing the game and not the MODs.
Personally, I don't see TaleWorlds changing the course of their development in the near future, if at all. That's if they don't "finish" Bannerlord and go for M&B 3.
It’s mount and blade and it’s on gog what makes it automatically the best version so what are you waiting for get it because it’s also an improvement in every way even in ea
