Great mix of Platformer and Metroidvania

This game is much better than for example the overrated Shovel Knight. Its much more charming, more comlex and the graphics are super lovely. Besides of that, you get a great soundtrack. And the translation is also acceptable. The instant switch between the different forms works flawless and every form has its own advantages. Save points are fair and there is no backtracking or game stretching. i am not almost done with this game but i played so far where i can say, this game is excellent and i hope there will be coming more of games like this.

One of the best metroidvanias out there!

I really enjoyed playing through Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom. Everything about it feels great. The controls and movement are snappy, the gameplay is unique, the music is memorable and the art style is just filled with charm. Seriously, it's like playing a 90s kids show! I also appreciated the somewhat dry humor and the fact that the game didn't take itself too seriously. Now, mind you, this is really my first entry to the Wonder Boy/Monster Boy franchise so I can only compare this to other, similar games. Perhaps, the only gripe I had was the occasional hiccup in the progression. I would say that around 95% of the time, the puzzles were clear and the game had a surprisingly good flow. However, 5% of the time, some of the areas were so ambiguous that I had to look up a walkthrough to proceed. Nevertheless, for the fans of the metroidvania genre, this game is a very easy recommendation. I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series!

A little gem for what it is

I was surprised for this game. The level of detail in the levels, the well-balanced incremental difficulty, All the secrets and collectibles you can find. And of course the charm, the music and the beautiful design. Very often compared to Wonder Boy like it was "A Bugs Life vs. Antz" but, though this one is inspired by Wonder Boy, its better. Well, the other one is just a remake from Wonder Boy III after all and has its own merit since it was a good one back in 1989. Buit this one is very fresh, more complete experience. I give 5 stars out of 5. If it was 1 to 10, I would give it 9.5 (for what it is).

This is how retro games have to be done.

I didn't expect all too much when I saw the game. 2D platformer, asian visuals. Looks nice enough. Bought it during a sale ... and I was just blown away. This is one of the nicest platformers I have seen in a long time. The turorial is integrated in the level design, step by step you get introduced to new level mechanics and the soundtrack is just awesome (not that FM sound we often here when it comes to retro games). The game itself is not overly complicated, except for finding treasures the level design is pretty much straight forward, arcade style, there is not much to explore like in many western games. The equipment you chose changes your abilities, you need heavy boots to be able to walk underwater for example. Is it THE perfect game? Of course not. I think I even found a dead end, but there was a savepoint two screens before, so it wasn't much of a problem. Get this gem!

Great Game... To hard

Game is great until the volcano level. I have spent a few hours Going round in circles The puzzles are just to hard and it diminishes the enjoyment. Also Many others find the game to hard If it was just a tad easier it would be very enjoyable Its the game that has so much potential but fails due to being way to hard Its almost on the same level as TMNT on the NES
