Monster Bash

I remember I had a shareware version of this game in the 90s. I brought it to my sister's halloween party on a floppy, and it suited the occasion perfectly. But we never got very far in the game, not even myself who played it more on my own computer. But now, decades later, I managed to play through the whole game (on the easy setting). It was tricky but very enjoyable. Challenging but not frustrating. If you use the save feature you can return to start from the beginning of the level. So usually I played one level at a time and when I got to the next I saved the game to return later. The game becomes easier once you get familiar with the levels. There are new game mechanics introduced every now and then, like, bouncy sofas that make you jump higher, air fans that hurt you but you can turn them off by shooting at them, and stuff like that. At the end of the game you can even ride a broom and shoot bolts of lighting. The variety of level design makes the game fun and not repetitive. And of course the horror theme is a lot of fun. You got zombies, skeletons, pumpkins, Medusas, werewolves, eyeballs, witches, crawling hands, living bomber airplanes(?), electric monster that glitches the screen (that one was the most terrifying), even xenomorph alien, and Swamp Thing from the DC comic books. My favorite was probably the funny-looking fish that jumps on the ground. And all enemies blow to pieces of bloody pixel gore. This is a cartoony horror game done right, it has attitude but is also cutesy. The only negatives I can think of: Some levels have quite difficult jumps on moving waterlily pads or brooms that fly on the air. Also the final boss fight was a bit of a letdown. He looks terrifying but is too easy, compared to how difficult some earlier parts of the game were. Overall I must say this is one of the most fun games I have gotten from GOG so far. I played the shareware version long ago but using a keyboard does not do this justice! Even with a gamepad of the time there's no option to bind the crucial look up/down keys to a joystick forcing you to use the keyboard. Luckily with programs like joytokey you can bind all keyboard commands to your controller and once you do that there's no need to touch the keyboard at all. The game is WAY more fun with good gamepad it's like playing it the way it was meant to be played and the game shines.

i Played this game a lot as a Kid, nice little game. Funny sounds, Tricky Jumps and Run sequences. at some points the Riddles getting hard (for a Kid) and also tough monsters. Definitly a worth Game for Platformer lovers :) or as we call it in Oldschool : Jump´n`Run Games ;)

Can someone tell me if this version has all three episodes unlocked, or just the first one?

I remember playing this game as a kid on my aunt and uncle's computer. It was a fun game, had a really memorable setting and the platforming wasn't too bad as I recall. There are definitely frustrating moments in the game (hit detection was clunky, some platforming parts were annoying, finding all the pets was difficult in certain levels) and the story is pretty lame, even for back then. I think the most redeeming thing about this game was the "creepy" setting. The sound effects were pretty good for the time, the music helped set the mood, and the backgrounds were grandiose in their depiction. A horror themed game isn't anything special these days, but back then it stood out. Is it worth close to six bucks? I don't think so. I literally forgot about this game until GOG put it up on their site. Sure it made me feel nostalgic as soon as I looked through the screenshots, but it's not something that I've been pining to revist. I'd rather play old games such as Abuse, Heretic, SIM Ant and Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain instead of this.
