Opis
Minoria is the latest and most ambitious game from Bombservice, and a spiritual sequel to the Momodora series, from the same studio.


Fans of Momodora will find familiar aspects in the design and gameplay elements, as they master the ins-and-outs of parries, dodges, and a variety of different spells.
The presentation has evolved to an HD format, with aesthetics mixing 2D hand-painted backgrounds and cel-shaded characters.


The story takes place during the fourth Witch War. It is a time of fanatical religious fervor. The Sacred Office, a powerful organization leading an Inquisition against heresy, purges the sinners who threaten humanity. Those responsible for conducting a mysterious ceremony that contradicts the rules of the Church are labeled “witches.”

Set forth with Sisters Semilla and Fran, missionaries in the Church’s service, on their journey to thwart the witches’ ceremony and protect the common-folk from heresy that endangers the status quo.

Hello there! I’m rdein, the creator and director of Minoria.
First of all, I’d like to share my excitement in announcing this project. This is a universe I care a lot for, from the setting to the characters, and it’s been a lot of fun to explore and develop its concepts during the process of game development.
For the first time in many years, I started a game project set in a new universe. It felt like a breath of fresh air for me. With that said, Minoria does contain some similarities with my previous projects (especially Momodora’s latest installment, Reverie Under the Moonlight).

I am proud of what we’ve been making for Minoria, and I hope you will enjoy the story and characters I’ve prepared this time around!



Howdy folks, Dan here from Dangen Entertainment. It’s been hard patiently waiting for the announcement of Minoria, knowing what an amazing game it’s going to be. It combines everything I love about the Momodora games with stronger emphasis on a solemn story. I love how Bombservice is approaching the visuals this time around too--it’s a unique take that looks beautiful and shows another evolutionary step in the team’s development experience, just as previous titles have.

This game is extraordinary. A must-play if you’ve got an appetite for action-platformers like I do.

Don't touch enemies

I'll keep it brief and on point. The game is not bad at all. The level design is classic metroidvania. Wade through the areas you can access, unlock the path forward and shortcuts through already explored areas as you go, hit walls to reveal secrets. Nice and simple. Onto the combat. I am not too far into the game, but from what I've seen, getting hit is severely punished from the start. Attacks from all enemies, mobs and bosses alike, take between 25 and a 100% of the main character's HP. The damage can be avoided by either dodging or parrying. The parry mechanic is an interesting addition, however, with the telegraphed attacks varying in speed it isn't easy to time it. Also, the severe punishment in form of heavy damage further discourages practicing it. The dodging mechanic is pretty reliable, but very rarely, the MC still takes damage during dodges. And now to address the elephant in the room. Contact damage in a 2D environment is sometimes very difficult to avoid, and with it being just as high as attack damage, at times, the odds are stacked quite highly against the player. The few boss fights I've been through so far are not long at least, and that's the only fair point of the difficulty which borders on punishing. The boss fights boil down to memorizing the properties of the attacks and timing dodges into the opposite direction while also minding your spacing. Momodora - RutML handles this better. Yes, bosses still do high damage and have some devastating attacks, but at least the contact damage isn't as extreme as in Minoria, and the boss arenas are larger, allowing for much better spacing. Conclusion: The lack of space combined with punishing damage can really act as a detriment to the enjoyment. The efforts of the dev-team are most appreciated, and the game is still enjoyable, but there clearly is room for improvement. I hope I wasn't too harsh.

Nowhere as good as Momodora

Common enemies 2 shot you. Bomber imps (common in the first area) take off 2/3 of your health bar. You need to defeat bosses without taking a single hit to get actually good upgrades (e.g. beating the first 2 bosses flawlessly increases your basic attack by 50% while the store bought incenses are mostly useless) which is very annoying to do since bosses have contact damage and move around erratically. The environments are very bland and samey looking, it's just endless hallways with locked doors and it's easy to get lost. Overall, a huge downgrade compared to Momodora, wait for a deep sale or skip it altogether.

In a weird spot...

It's a nice little Metroidvania game, the atmosphere fits and the art design is pretty....but it lacks polish, mainly in the combat and balancing department. You get active and passive skills, 99% of the former are useless 100% of the time. The offensive ones do way too little damage to be worthwhile using instead of just hitting enemies, have a set amount of charges, and the particles produce a lot of visual clutter obscuring your view-> you get hit -> you die. Cleansing status effects is worthless, since you never actually get any. That leaves healing, and passive skills. Sometimes there are enemies mixed in that just seem to have about 20 times (no joke) the hp of the one next to it of the same type. Combat...well, parry feels odd. It's quick by itself, the window is very short, and canceling attacks into a successful parry sometimes works, and sometimes it doesn't. Jump+parry is a lot easier to land. Pretty often the animations don't really line up with what is actually happening. You can attempt a parry, get no visual feedback, but take no damage and the attack just passes through you (on parryable attacks). You can stunlock enemies...and suddendly die out of nowhere because the enemy decided to attack you while visibly still being stunned (remember, you take a lot more damage when hit while attacking). Bosses are pretty easy, except for them being HP-sponges and killing you in 1-2 hits. You get rewards for killing them flawlessly, at least. You have stats, but you have no real way of influencing them except for leveling up and a couple(I think?) of weak buff skills, so they might as well not be there. There is also hardly any equipment to be found, and some items just seem to land in your inventory without ever being of any use. This, together with the rather short length and some characters just being there leaves you wondering if the game got cut short for release. You get your money's worth, but I wouldn't mind paying more for more game and more polish

Fast + tough combat, little else to love

I'm a big fan of Bombservice's previous games, but I couldn't find much to enjoy in Minoria. Animations are stiff, and many enemy telegraphs come down to a circular flash before a very fast attack. This could be hard to spot and react to given the large effects on screen that appear every time I attacked. Some attack animations are locked to lower framerates (I noticed this especially on the double-jump), which made me feel ill at times running the game at 144 FPS. Even attacking constantly, I was rarely able to build up enough damage to stunlock an enemy, making nearly every fight a constant loop of "bottleneck enemies into a line, attack once or twice, roll away, repeat." With even basic mobs' attacks removing over half of my HP, combat was more of an exercise in frustration than anything else. Levelling up barely increased my defensive capabilities; if an enemy is hitting for 240 damage, 8 more HP isn't going to do anything. The area design in Minoria is also a large step back from previous Bombservice titles, lacking the design elements that helped differentiate locations in favor of linear corridors with little distinguishing detail. The area I expected to be the most open, a garden, ended up being one of the worst offenders of all, featuring a linear hallway with three chokepoints in a row. It's no secret that rdein, the game's creator, was inspired by the Souls series, but this game ends up in the same place that Dark Souls III does for me: by focusing on the game's fast, difficult action elements above all else, it loses the quality adventure elements which drew me to the games in the first place. I can't recommend this game to anyone but die-hard action fans, especially at twice the price of Momodora IV.

Enchanting Metroidvania

This game expands upon the beauty of Momodora Reverie under the Moonlight and makes another epic masterpiece. The thing I love most is that you're rewarded well for doing something like taking no damage from a boss. The music is beautiful, the art style is different from the pixel style I expected but still very good. The side thigh action from the MC is also a plus as well as the really fun attack animations and fighting style with interesting enemies. Movement is a bit clunky and the walking animation can look a bit awkward but it does not take anything away from the game just something I noticed first off but becomes neglible once you have played 20 minutes. I'm also really happy this entry supports high resolution monitors and fps options.
