It's not the best

True, it's nowhere near as good as Kick-Off or Sensible Soccer from the same era. BUT, when it was released it was possibly the best till they arrived. You can play both normal football/soccer and indoor for a nice change I haven't seen since in a football/soccer game. It's fast action, the ball as with most games of the mid to late 80s, sticks to your feet. There are some options to how to play and overall it's a good game. It's not the best, it's not even the third best of the 16-bit era, but it's fun! When it was released it was a 4/5, a couple of years later it became a 3/5 due to the extreme competition. In 2021? Well, that would be completely unfair. I give it a 4/5.

Sensible Soccer franchise's kickoff

Microprose Soccer was made by the same people from Sensible Soccer, before Sensible Soccer even existed, we can consider Microprose Soccer as a prototype of Sensible Soccer with some different ideas (like indoor and outdoor matches) but infinitely less sophisticated and much more like an arcade style soccer game. Either way it has its charm.

Fun on the pitch

When this game came out, there were a few other soccer games available, but not one nearly as fun, challenging, and exciting as MicroProse Soccer. The controls are easy to master, and the pitch is the right size for the players (unlike other games where the field seemed kind of small). Then there is the World Cup tournament, which other contemporary games didn't have. Did this game get left behind? Sure, but so does every other game. I moved on from MP Soccer and played many others, but very few reached the heights of MicroProse Soccer. Truly happy to see it in GOG!

C64 outdoor soccer not available

If you want to play the funniest part of the C64 game, the outdoor soccer part, you won't find it here. The game (side B of the C64 disc) has not been integrated completely into this software. Too bad. It would have been nice if this information had been included in the product description. If you've played on DOS PC in your youth, go ahead and ignore my feedback. It's just the C64 version available in the GOG Store on 12.01.2025 that is incomplete.

Back to the 80's

This is basically Tehkan World Cup. The original arcade game had a trackball that punished your hands for the sum of 20p a go. Never could get past the 3rd or 4th game. If you like Sensible Soccer, you'll like this.
