Caster of Magic started out as a mod, championed by Seravy and building on top of the already popular community patch. Caster of Magic has been a fan favorite of the Master of Magic community and we are pleased to be able to work with Seravy to officially integrate Caster of Magic, giving him the recognition he deserves.

For those who have been misled by the word DLC. In fact, this is a high-quality modification that is significantly different from the original. As for the aggressiveness of AI, it is greatly changed here. Aggressiveness is more dependent on the difficulty of the game. I recommend starting play with the levels Normal and Fair. For me it is logical that the opponent aggressively treats you if the goal of everyone is to become the sovereign ruler. And I like that now I can’t completely put all the books in one school of magic, as this encourages more tactics and makes research more meaningful.
If someone does not know, you can change the window resolution in windowed mode. To do this, go to the game folder ("Master of Magic\Master of Magic Caster of Magic DLC"), open the file "dosboxMOM.conf" using notepad and change the line from "windowresolution = original" to "windowresolution = 1280x960" (or other resolution).
I've been playing this for a while and it has taken the classic Master of Magic and ironed out all the issues and added a huge amount of content on top.
There are massive improvements to the spell lists, race balance, traits, game concepts, diplomacy and AI, not to mention fixes for loads of bugs and broken features.
Yes it removes some of the old favourite broken strategies like 10 book starts that basically win the game for you which were quite fun, but it has added so many more interesting and varied strategies.
I must have played this for 250 hours already, it's simply the definitive version of one of the best games ever.
Caster of Magic (CoM) is an unpolished product, and it is clear that it is fanmade content rather than a professional project. Even so, it deserves 5 stars if you're interested in what it has to offer.
First off, CoM is definitely not for purists. The changes are extensive and aim to completely change the balance of the game. For me, that is a good thing. I loved MoM, but it was ridiculously unbalanced. There were several broken strategies, and several units, spells and races that played meaningless roles in the game. By and large, CoM fixes all of that. All races, units, retorts and spells all play a meaningful role in the game now. Coming up with viable strategies is a lot more fun, as there is more useful material to choose from. Same goes for the AI, it has much more useful material to choose from and will perform much better with it.
On that note, even on Impossible level MoM was fairly easy. CoM is not for players who want a manageable win on the highest difficulty level. Most players will lose on Lunatic, until you discover the few strong strategies remaining. Even so, you need to stay on your toes for the entire game as the AI no longer a pushover. You should expect much higher levels of aggression, and much smarter battle tactics. Sprites will no longer suicide into your units after they're done shooting, so if you can't take them down you have a problem on your hands. And if you bring ranged units against them, they're going down first.
So if you want a more serious single player strategy game that will challenge your skills, go ahead and spend a tiny bit of money on this. If you prefer fluff and fantasy and don't mind easy wins, stick with the original for better immersion.
Thanks for that DLC. It made the original game even better. It’s not true that the AI is too strong and everyone is attacking me. The DLC was very excellent. I think.
