Great game with som minor flaws

This is a beautful game with fun shooting/driving mechanics and n interesting l plot. If you're into gta style games this is a no brainer. I would give it 5 stars but there are some issues that still haven't been addressed since launch. Now the pc version is the best version since it's the only way to play this game in 4k 60fps, but there are issues with launching the game in the first place. When you hit play you may find yourself looking at a black screen that styas there indefinetely. I found out you need to disable full screen optimisations and run the game as addmin to start it properly. Then, if you turn on fullscreen, it will crash... so you need to disable v-sync before turning on fullscreen then re-enable v-sync to prevent it crashing. Other than that it's a great time, there is also a way to disable the ugly film grain effect by editing some files (there are plenty of guides online). I recommend playing playing on classic difficulty for the most immersive experience, plays best on a TV using a controller!

9.4/10 but unecceptable release

this is a great game and you really should play it imo. the thing is though, that it took me an hour to get past a black screen on start up and then i had to find out why the game froze up in full screen. turns out that these were known issues even in Mafia 3 which released four years earlier. - the black screen: the game doesnt run on a 144hz screen, you have to download a !THIRD PARTY! file and change commands in the .ini - freezing up in full screen: its a Vsync issue. i had to start up the game via the Steam app which allowed me to start it up in Windowed Mode. than i had to turn vsync off in the options, turn on full screen and than i can turn vsync on again. these were known issues to 2k and i know very little about PC's so this is UNACCAPTABLE!!!

Bad initial experience

I've played the original game many times from beginning to end and I truly enjoyed it. I had very high hopes on this remake but unfortunately there are two key elements that they unnecessarily changed and I believe it's for worse: the music, specially the initial menu music, which is imprinted in my mind and cannot understand why in the world they would change it for a generic 1930's noir background song that no one will ever remember, and then the second part is that it seems to have been released without proper care in graphics optimizations. All is well until you actually start playing and unexplicable it starts stuterring and frame rate goes down to 5 (completely unplayable) but then on some instants it runs normally. My initial experience was so bad I am not sure I want to continue playing this version in case it completely ruins the memory of what I believe was a extraordinary well made game.

Truly misses what made the original great

The LEVEL DESIGN! The other reviews mention the cast and characters, music, but they really undersell just how diametrically different the levels are designed in this remake. The original was filled with beautiful, emergent sandboxes and setpieces where you really had to play mindfully and tactically. You were facing off against a relatively small group of very deadly gangsters, with the clumsy roll of desperation and mediocre aim. Tommy is after all an everyman in over his head and that feeling was captured very well in the gameplay. In the remake, you are a supersoldier who zoops instantly between cover and dispatches hundreds of headshots and bombastic explosions with ease. Every single mission has been reduced to excessively scripted sequences and extremely linear shooting gallery corridors. Yes the original was janky but theyve smoothed out the gameplay experience so much that its become rather generic.

Good game, but not a great game

This review is from the pov of someone who hasn't played the original. As I have already suggested it in the title, this is definitly a good game, but it is missing so many small details to call it a great game, on almost all levels be it acting, music, immersion, world building and so on.
