Weird balance choices...
Basically you are too dependant to mp and hp regen, using any other loadout is a hidrance. The boss fights consist to spamming all the healing item that you hoarded through the levels. But this game does also something good, but this wierd choices it can only be considered a mixed bag for me.

Didn't vibe with me
I realized I wasn't having fun and stopped playing. It's a serieis of small things, not healing at save points, very limited resources, overly slow feeling pace, and a story that wants to be an interesting mystery and didn't do anything to grab my attention early on. Some of those things are intentional design choices, and so they are not necessarily bad. However, they are choices that I personally didn't enjoy. As for the other criticisms, they are also pretty subjective. Just wasn't for me.

I love it!
Everything in the game can be overcomed if you are the person that learns from his mistakes and can use his brain. Most games nowadays hold your hand to the point they become boring but not Lost Ruins! It is a short game but there are 4 different modes which add to the replayability. Normal mode has 4 different difficulties (highest difficulty mode erases your save), Witch mode where you can use only spells, Assassin mode where you can use only a few type of weapons and no spells and finally Boss mode where you beat the game with three bosses. The game had some issues with freezing but I fixed it. If you are using windows 10 and an Nvidia card like me do this, Go to the application folder and select to run the game in Windows 7 compatibility. Now, when in game select "Full Screen" and "Vsync" in the options. I haven't had a freeze in 30 hours gameplay!

Good game
Gameplay is good and the complexity makes it great. Graphics are great. It's a touch above the usual "kyoani" anime style which plagues modern Japanese studios. One of the few games from this genre that actually caught my eye because of its art style. I hate pixel shit usually. Don't overpay for it though.

A surprising gem!
I downloaded the game while it was on giveaway (thanks GOG) not knowing what to expect. There are not many 2D side scrollers that I enjoy or play often but I was pleasantly surprised! Within the first 30 minutes of playing the game, I knew right away that I had just stumbled upon a hidden gem of a game! For a 2D game, the graphics are cute and unique. Characters are well made and expressive and textures look great! The game's overall main story line is OK, but also a little generic and simple. Dialogue between characters and enemies are a bit cheesy and could have had some more thought put into it, but with this game its easy to overlook that and still enjoy the game for what it is. I also kind of like the simplicity of the dialogue that doesn't get you trapped in a seemingly endless string of dialogues. It's easy to get right back into the action if you are not digging the characters, story or dialogues. There is tons of action that progresses in difficulty as the game goes on. Many challenges sprinkled throughout the game that does a great job of adding difficulty without also causing rage. A lot of weapons to chose from as well as spells that are fun to use. Combat is simple and fun! I'm still fairly early into the game but overall I am impressed and surprised at how fun of a game it is. It's a great game to play simply for the fun of it, not so much one of those games that you get very wrapped up in and invested into the story or characters. It's a great game to pick up and play for a while between other games or as a break from other games. I highly recommend this game to anyone, whether you are a fan of this genre or not. Like I said, the 2D and side-scrolling genre is not typically one I play very often, but I am so glad I gave this one a shot!!
