Lorelai, by Harvester Games, is the conclusive part of R. Michalski's Devil Came Through Here adventure game trilogy, alongside The Cat Lady (2012) and Downfall (2016).
A brand new horror adventure with an immersive story and world in full HD. An engaging soundtrack by micAmic and guest artists, English voice acting and Xbox controller support.
Lorelai will take you on a whirlwind journey through an engrossing psychological thriller suitable for adults, soon! More information, screens and trailers forthcoming.
Ah ten klimat...
If you are looking for The Cat Lady Part 2 you will be in for some disappointment - sort of. While the mechanics are (basically) the same here, Lorelai's horror - or the devil indeed - is in the detail of everyday's social human interaction and the descisons that you make. It's about overcoming or succumbing to your demons in topics like domestic abuse, suicide, alcoholism, survivor guilt, deliberate agression and vile, depression and such. Are you at least trying to understand or help others, are you just standing by or are you actively make their lives more miserable or even help them to their ruin? How far - and over who's body - will you go to make yourself whole again? There is much less shocking gore and horror in Lorelai than in The Cat Lady and Downfall and definitely too much fade-to-whites for sure. It's not entirely perfect but all in all several playthroughs to see the different endings are totally justified! Lorelai is so unnervingly dreadful, because you probably met such people in real life. Lorelai is - in that regard - probably closer to the Dogma 95 movies than the horror genre, as Rem Michalski being one of the few game developers who can actually deliver drama that is as gruesome as it is humanly touching at the same time.
I've just completed Lorelai and I'm really impressed. The gameplay is similar to Cat Lady and also the story has some connections. If you're a fan of TCL, you certainly won't be disappointed with Lorelai. Of course, the story is deep emotional and a bit sad, with added some horror elements. Some cruel parts of reality are also elements of the storyline.
I only have good things to say about this game as it was so well written with its characters and story.
I will say this is for those who truly enjoyed The Cat Lady and Downfall.
The music in the game is really great.
The thing I didn't like that much is the weird lightning effects sometimes in some scenes.
It still have the same feeling with the graphical style as from the previous games with improvements. This might be something that turns some off and yes it isn't for everybody.
I will also mention that there are different endings so be prepared for that.
If you enjoyed the previous 2 in the series you will truly enjoy this one. Get ready for one heck of a trip.
I expected a lot!
Beautiful main menu screen with nice and catchy song, stylish.
Whole first act is great. Visualy nice stylized 2D graphic, evolution of style from Downfall and Cat Lady. Good music and voice acting, fine writing. Gameplay same as in Cat lady, light walking on 2D areas, taking, using items, talking with people. Minus are crazy graphic requirements for 2D game!
You are Lorelai, young girl living with drinking mother and psychopatic macho boyfriend of her mother. Living with them is not easy, but your new job maybe help you to get away from them. But things can be much much worse.
Story was great, until you get into the world of Queen of Maggot, character from Cat Lady game. Things make less and less sense. Dialogs and writings are worse and worse. There are optional silly tasks which have no effect on your progress and also few moral choices, which surprisely have no impact on story neither. But lately in game you met with mysterious character which give you very odd task, to do one bizarre thing which is totaly against friendly nature of your character, just cause its for good, and you weirdly accept that! No comment.
Story has so many holes that i cant believe that game was complete on release day. Gives me a strong feeling that came out too soon and lot of story things just missing. Good example is puzzle from the end of game, it can be solved by two ways, one easy, second is much more complicated. So I expect some impact, different result or maybe different ending, but game acts same way as if you use easy solution. Really?
Ending was fail too, makes no sense, and explain nothing at all. You can get slightly different ending and extra dialog depending on who you saved during game, but in the end game ignores all your moral choices. Why?
Awesome first 25% of game, and technicaly also great, but the rest of this game is so flappy. Beggining rocks, so how could quality fall down like this? Lack of money or time to development?
