I just finished it and I had fantastic time playing it! Honestly I have no clue why some people are so harsh on it. Its a really good Souls-like. Looks AND plays very good even after all these years. I had ZERO crashes whole playthrough, nothing bothers me in it. Only thing I regret is that I was waiting so long to play it because of all the negativity. Great game, cant wait for the new one that is coming. Glad I have got it finally.

Lords of The Fallen is hard, unforgiving, even frustrating at some point, but it's fair and satysfying.
Every minion in this game can be your death sentence, if you only stop being careful.
Boss fights are cherry on cake. You need to memorize thier moves, which some will say is boiring, but you also need to adapt your strategy to it, depending what kind of aromour and weapon you are caring. And none of the boss fights are slow, they are all constant action, so you must plan fast and act fast.
About the RPG elements - well, when it comes to dialogue it's not exacly S tier, but it does it's job. More fun thing is your equipment. There are lots of different weapons and armors, each with it's own stats and scalling. You won't use every single one of those, yet thats why game has kinda good replayability.
Character creator is not there, you only choose set of spells and class for Harkyn (your hero), and those calsses are:
Tank - slow but lots of health, and dmg.
Rogue - fast but less health and dmg.
Monk - connection of Tank and Rogue.
It's pretty classy pack of RPG classes, but it does it's work well.
Each class uses magic, you get to chose one of three magic spell trees. What's cool is that you can use for examlpe rouge recommended spell tree on tank.
You will also probably pick those items that fit your class, but nothing stands in your way, if you wanna be tank with light armor or vice versa. Just feel free to experiment.
Who should buy it?
- People who like hard games, who don't mind repeating some parts few times, who like fast combat.
Who should avoid?
- Those who look for good RPG action, with lots of dialogue and focus on story.
yes, I said it. Better than DARK SOULS 1, 2 & 3, better than DEMON SOULS.
Firstly combat is BETTER: it is slower. You are wearing heavy armor, so no prancing around like a ballerina. It feels more realistic (for a fantasy game).
Secondly, boss fights are fewer and not overly difficult. Yeah, yeah, I know, the "Git gud" crowd out there will hate it, but I play games for relaxation, NOT for difficulty. A game should be FUN, not hard work and frustrating. No, LORDS OF THE FALLEN isn't an easy game, far from it, but it isn't as frustrating as other games like this. Also you won't be stumbling over a boss every 5 minutes. There's 10 bosses in total, which is more than enough.
Thirdly I prefer the art style in LORDS OF THE FALLEN. It looks better, sadly though the story isn't as dark. Still, I liked it.
LORDS OF THE FALLEN isn't great, it's not the Second Coming of Christ, but it is a good game for those who don't want their games to be too frustrating. It is a fairer game than all those other "souls" like games out there. And at $30 this is definitely a buy!
Lord of the Fallen is generally what's everyone point it out to be: A game that attempts to reach players who loves challenging games in the likes of the Souls series.
In a way, the game succeed at the attempt. but it comes with a few lacks and/or issues.
First, the game is extremely short. Most of the hours put in the game are due to deaths & retries. In terms of content and lenght, the game is pretty much the size of Dark Souls II, but only up to the Gargoyes boss. Yes, it's that short. The game has about 12 different enemies with 2 or 3 variants of it (those being stronger) and has barely a dozen mid-bosses and bosses where some are reussed as spawning enemies later on.
The game is either super hard or super easy depending on your ability to use the blocking, counter, evasion and position yourself properly in real time. From what I have seen and experienced, the first 2-4 hours are usually about getting the hang of those. After that, you got about 8 to 10 hours of content remaining unless you struggle against 1 boss or 1 group of enemies.
Visually, the game is really looking great. It's looking a bit like the middle ground between the Soul's series ambiance within some sort of World of Warcraft design.
The sounds are average and I can't remember any soundtracks that made the game stand out.
The controls are typical 3rd person RPG fantasy focusing on evasion, but there's a clear issue with the hitbox of the characters and attacks. (Simply put, you got to know the hidden "size" of attacks and not just follow what you see. Even if an attack pass 1m above you head, you'll get hit and even if you strike thought certain part of the enemies, the hits won't register.
Another bad thing about this game is the clear fact that the developpers dropped the ball mid-way. Initially, you get more or less what seems like some quests & objective left and right, but at some point the number of quests and their complexity and/or lenght drop to barely anything at all.
This game has ome of the most satisfying beatdowns (for the player or the AI), everything feels heavy and powerful, the windup swing of a hammer bringing in just the right ammount of tension before slamming into the unfortunate foe with a bone crunching sound and stagger!
Even when moving the character feels like a bulging brick house of flesh and steel, heavily armored boots crashing through furnature sending debris flying as you charge into the fray!
Simply, it feels great to play, and keeps urging one more try with smart mechanics like unlocking shortuts and secret passageways to make each attempt after a failed fight that little bit quicker and more immediate, plus if you do die, you'll be given some time to return to where you fell to retrieve any lost experience points.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
