Clunky and no fun at all

I have never played Dark Souls, and decided to give this game a chance on its own merit. On the plus side, the graphics are nice. That is the only nice thing I have to say about it. I found it very clumsy and hard to play. Everything that has been said about the combat is true, and in general movement is the same, it is slow and clunky and just not fun. This coupled with the inability to free save, wooden voice acting, and unclear controls make this game a definite miss for me. I gave it half an hour, got nowhere and quit in frustration. For the money, I would have done better if I had gone to the pub, had a pint, and come home again.

Thoroughly Middling

This game caught a lot of flak when it came out; it's an early "soulslike"- an action that takes obvious, heavy influence from From's games- and it got a lot of hate for that. Since then, though, many other studios have put out soulslikes, and Lords of the Fallen has proven to be far from the worst of them, so its reputation has experienced kind of a mild renaissance. In truth, LotF was overhated at release, but it's also not the hidden gem it's sometimes presented as. It's an essentially competent but unexciting take on the soulslike formula. It's not as good as From's games. Its main failing is its lack of originality- the setting is generic "dark fantasy," the fragmentary backstory-oriented storytelling is heavily indebted to From's style, and where the mechanics differ from the basic soulslike formula, they're muddled and confusing rather than excitingly new. Fortunately, co-developer Deck 13 took what they learned on this game and went on to make the genuinely exceptional Surge games, which very much establish their own identity within the world of soulslikes. I wouldn't really recommend Lords of the Fallen to anyone but those who've played From's games and the Surge games first, and really seriously wants more. As I write this, a sequel/reboot is slated to come out in a few months. Almost a decade in development, and kicked between at least three different studios, time will tell if it manages to establish the series as a serious contender.

26 game crashes in one playthrough

And 1 full system crash... Tried everything and nothing works. Have this in mind when the new LotF comes out. In the good side, graphics are good, and ultrawide screens are supported. FPS between 60-120 on a RTX2080 Super at 3440x1440. Everything maxed. So that's it, too bugged to my taste especially the final levels... yet I managed to finish it... that has to mean something right?

How this 8/10 game have mixed reviews?

This game is better and easier than dark souls 1. Very fun to play if you mastered it. Most of the mechanics are similar, but this game is more accessible, has additional attacks like the ram or the gauntlet. Lots of different secrets on the map. This game has speaking characters, has some storyline, and additional missions. In Dark Souls the depths were tragic, and the boss Ornstein and Smough was unbearable for me. Bossess in Lords of the fallen are much better. Even the checkpoint system is better done here than in DS. The only thing I didn't like about this game were the large enemies with shields. There was no explanation anywhere on how to defeat them, and killing them by short sword was very long. Other weapons are too slow. Of course parry is hard for me. It is too short window for parry'ing.

Souslike - ogólnie może być

Jest to soulslike, więc trzeba być przygotowanym na wysoki poziom trudności. Grafika (nawet 10 lat po premierze) jest bardzo ładna i wraz z dobrze dopasowaną muzyką tworzą ciekawy klimat. Świat gry jest dość mały, ale ze względu na to, że nie ma żadnej mapy to i tak trzeba kilka razy przejść przez dany obszar, aby go zapamiętać. System walki jest powolny i szczególnie na początku nieco odpychający, ale po kilku godzinach można się przyzwyczaić i nawet mieć z tego trochę satysfakcji. Walkę utrudnia dziwna praca kamery, gdzie czasem można stracić przez nią orientację w terenie i zginąć. Fabuła nie jest porywająca i tu mam chyba największe zastrzeżenia, ponieważ czasem nie wiadomo o co chodzi w grze (brak dziennika), gdzie się kierować (brak mapy) i na jakiej podstawie mamy dokonywać wyborów w trakcie rozmów. Gra nie wyjaśnia wielu kwestii (nie tylko fabularnych ale też technicznych), przez co można się pogubić. Pomimo powyżej opisanych problemów gra jest całkiem ok. Grę skończyłem w 20h i nawet dobrze się bawiłem, nie żałuje spędzonego w niej czasu. To jest pierwszy soulslike w jaki grałem więc nie mam porównania do innych gier tego typu.
