At the end of each level, you'll face off against a powerful boss that will put your skills to the test. And as Gabriel, you'll receive an extra skill after defeating each boss, allowing you to progress even further and take on greater challenges.
Gameplay Variety
Experience a range of mechanics, from throwing weapons to melee combat, down stabs, jumping, and dashing. Unlock the powers of Gabriel's curse to enhance your abilities. Play as both Gabriel and Lyria, each offering a unique and distinct gameplay experience for endless replayability.
Plus, once you've beaten the game with Gabriel, unlock two additional game modes: Speedrunner mode and Boss Rush mode. And the best part? You can play both of these modes with either Gabriel or Lyria for even more variety and fun!
Retro-aesthetic and sound design
Relive the glory days of classic gaming with retro-inspired 16-bit physics and perfectly polished controls. The game's stunning handcrafted 8-bit pixel art and fast anime-style animations, the 8-bit SFX and OST, enriched with sounds from the Megadrive sound chip, complete the immersive retro experience.
Graphics are very well done with an 8-bit aesthetic, lots of attention to detail. Interesting enemy types, and you unlock more abilities as you progress.
I could not beat the final boss. It is a two-phase battle, and the second phase is one-touch instant death, putting you back to the first phase. I do not have the time to keep trying, so that is the only part I didn't like. If they had made the final boss not instant death, I think this would have been a perfect five-star game.
Overall I have positive reviews about the game and it left a alright taste in my mouth, only 2 problems id like to adress and it has little to do with the difficulty, cause no every game needs to be tough as nails.
First: it feels extremely clunky, when we wanna play old games we mean only in looks and genre, not in controls. If you get what I mean.
Second: lack of penalties for dying. And its not about the difficulty really, but the lack of punishment for your actions or lack of it.
As a speedrunner of this game, I do have a certain bias for the game, but there is a charm in the game, especially after you've unlocked the second character. The game uses the same maps, but has a totally different feel going from Gabriel to Lyria. You DO have to play through as Gabriel first, but after you do... Please try Lyria, she'll change your final opinion of the game.
Lords of Exile to klasyczna gra platformowa z przepięknymi, zróżnicowanymi lokacjami oraz całym wachlarzem wymagających wrogów. Duże wrażenie robią przeważnie ogromni bossowi, z których każdy wymaga odpowiedniej taktyki. Sam gameplay to eksploracja połączona z walką. W miarę postępów otrymujemy nowe zdolności ułatwiajace przemieszczenia się oraz eksterminację wrogów. Sama fabuła jest prosta, traktuje o walce dobra ze złem i jest doskonałym przkładem opowieści zemsty. Dodatkwo to tpzyjemnie dluga gra - aż 8 poziomów, która oddaje w ręce gracze dwóch skrajnie różnych bohaterów. Początkowo do dyspozycji jest jedynie rycerz Gabriel, niemniej po ukończeniu tytułu, pojawia się jeszcze kunoichi Lyria. Gra Gabrielem jest zdecydowanie bardziej wymagająca, mniej dymaniczna i każdy błąd ma tutaj ogromne znaczenie. Sterując Lyrią rozgrywka nabiera większa tempa, walka z wrogami odbywa się na odległość, a pokonywanie fragmentów platformych to łatwizna. Tak ogromna zmiana w rozgrywce powoduje, że grę z przymności przechodzi się kolejny raz, co wydłuża jej żywotność. Polecam maniakom staroszkolnych produkcji.
This game is quite short: 6-8 hours to complete. So, buy it when it's on sale. It's a pure action game (no Metroidvania or RPG elements), just to be clear.
The graphics are good overall, except for the main character's sprite. I was like, is this "thing" really my character? Also, something that really annoys me: why does the character walk so slowly? Whose idea was that? When you complete the game, you unlock a second character who walks at a speed I consider normal, and it's so much more enjoyable.
The controls are good and responsive, except a bit for the double jump. For the 2nd jump, you have to hit the button at the right time. Personally, I prefer being able to quickly double-tap the button.
The further the game progresses, the better it gets. The later levels are fast-paced and more challenging (which I like). The game is a little more difficult than "normal", but with the exception of the final boss, everyone should be able to complete all the levels.
If you like retro games and want to have a great weekend, I recommend it.
