Frustrating and unenjoyable
I don't know what the developers' goal was, but it certainly was not fun, enjoyment, or entertainment. The Residence was nothing but an exercise in extreme frustration and rage for me. I felt absolutely no enjoyment while playing this DLC. The only reason I finished it was because I hate leaving games unfinished. Whereas the base game and the previous two DLCs (The Depths and The Hideaway) were standard platforming with puzzle elements, The Residence took an entirely different route. In this DLC, absolutely nothing is explained. There are no indicators of what to do or where to go, and the "puzzles" are so obtuse, I feel very confident in saying that at least 99% of the players will not be able to solve them without a walkthrough. In addition to the ridiculously absurd difficulty in solving the puzzles and determining what to do and where to go, there are physical issues as well. It may not be an issue if you use a controller, but if you use a keyboard and mouse, be prepared for additional frustration caused by the controls. The reason for this is that this DLC introduces shadow enemies, and to defeat these shadow enemies, you need to shine your flashlight on them for a set period of time. The problem is that you need to do this while also trying to drag a chair, climb a ladder, turn a wheel, etc, so you need to frequently switch from your hand on the mouse while holding the left click button to your hand on the arrow keys to control the direction of the flashlight. Unless you have three hands, this will get very annoying very quickly. This DLC was such a departure from the base game and first two DLCs, it's hard to believe it's the same game (aside from the visuals). This was definitely a very poor way to conclude the game.
