Leisure Suit Larry has done it longer, deeper, and stronger. He’s been “around the block”, so to speak. It’s quite an accomplishment for a man wearing a suit that’s been out of style long before it was manufactured. He’s seen it all, from sleazy nightclubs and seedy bars with alleys that should be avoided at all times. He’s even gone native for a bit and grabbed a piece of the island life. His life has been full of tight spots and pulsating pectorals. His lizard’s always lounging and looking for love in several wrong places, the more the merrier! Always willing and able to perform some undercover work, our man Larry is a swingin’ single guy out for some action! His lines are as groovy as a record and his strut is something to be seen!
Leisure Suit Larry’s Greatest Hits and Misses features the loveable loser Larry Laffer in five complete adventures with throbbing suspense, pulchritudinous point-and-click action, and some parsing on the side! Hubba hubba! Help Larry score as you hit the town of Lost Wages, Nevada which “looks like a huge neon dinosaur making it with 6,000 acres of electrified sequins”, the scintillating sandy shores of Nontoonyt Island, and go to Los Angeles and paint the town red. Celebrate Larry’s finest years and remember, big things come in small packages!
There are few adventure games like this in the sense that you can die and... Well... Get screwed, so save often. These games are just wondeful humorous adventure games and for this price, of course you should get them.
In my childhood and youth during the 1980s and early 1990s i saw the "Leisure Suit Larry"-Games very often, but i thought first it was an click-and-point-adventure which is not so my favourite genre. Then in my school-time i played "Cawado", a german "security-adventure" which should simulate a day of a school-boy and this was a parser-controlled-game, means, you can walk with the arrow-keys and write the commands in a text-window to solving the tasks. And some days before i found out via Rocketbeans TV that the classic "Larry"-Games had this sort of controls. I was fascinated and i purchased the collection here.
I love the humor in these games. Only the copyright-mechanism is a bit disturbing but this was normally for that old days. The walkthroughs with the red-fields i couldn't read them so i decide to use other walkthroughs from the web.
I will play these games often. I like the different Larry-situations. They are awesome.
I'm younger than the six games and therefore didn't grow up with those types of games. I mainly bought the six games because I heard of the series before and wanted to know what it was all about.
It's just okay. I enjoyed 3,5 and 6, but the first two felt a bit like a chore to me, especially the first one. I will say that I had to use a guide for the first game. Can't imagine what it was like during the 80s and 90s without the Internet we have today.
I won't talk about the spicy content, because there's not much to talk about . Larry is an absolute muppet, and you play as the muppet. If you want to play a game where you do the ''deed'' more often, there are better games out there, and from the 80s too if that's what you are looking for.
The humor is a hit or miss. More often than not, I laughed not because it was actually funny, but more so because of the stupidity. However, there is a lot of meta humor and those one were funny. I didn't enjoy the stupid quiz at the start of the first game, maybe because I'm too young. Same thing for the phone numbers in the second game (go into the bonus tab in your GOG client and download the PDF).
The UI is fine I guess, it did the job. Larry walks way too slow. A lot of stupid death (don't forget to wear your rubber and to take it off. You'll know when it will come up). The puzzles are often time nonsensical or very straight foward.
As for performance, on Windows 11, it was fine. Never had a crash or stuttering. I haven't played the original DOS games, but I didn't feel like something was off. It felt like normal, functioning games. The games themselves didn't age well, but it's not because of the emulation
Overall, the games are stupid, the humor is a hit or miss, a lot of meta (and outdated) jokes. I played them for the experience, and I thought it was ok. If you like dumb humor, it's a series for you. If you are looking for spicy games or profound humor that will make you question the universe, you should pass.
I truly enjoy playing these games, especially the early ones with text input. Been playing them over and over for more than three decades now. I might not be having any summer holidays this year or the next one but I can always enjoy the tropical paradise that is LSL2 and 3. Island of Nontoonyt here I come again
wonderful! early games work natively in Mac OSX. This is not prepared like KQ , PQ and QFG which need Windows installed/emulated to work. These LSL versions have Mac dmg installer downloads that must have DOSBOX wrapped into a OSX App, opens like any other app. So well done. Thanks GOG
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
