Kyrandia is a land of dark, mysterious forests, and sleeping dragons. A fantastic land where rubies grow on trees and magic abounds. Who would imagine that a land so idyllic would spawn a murderer so demented? Some say that the court jester, Malcolm, was mad to begin with. Others whisper in sly, conspiratorial tones that it was his burning desire to possess the precious Kyragem that slowly drove him to slay the peaceful King William.
As the rightful prince of Kyrandia, you must pursue the elusive Malcolm to recover the powerful gemstone. Only then will you be able to reclaim the throne and restore harmony to the land of Kyrandia. The Legend of Kyrandia awaits you!
A true classic - this forgotten gem from the early 90s is a must-have for every adventure game fan!
Four chapters of progressively more challenging quests that will have you casting spells, searching strangely-lit caverns, collecting gemstones, and chasing down leprechauns.
Bewitching scenery, smartly written dialogues, and atmospheric music will make your visit to Kyrandia unforgettable.
Make a save game before you fly to the castle at the end. Its possible to mess up and make the game un winable. If you must eat an apple, only consume ONE.
An ok game that has somewhat challenging puzzles that at times dont even give you a hint. Always save and make save copies to avoid back tracking.
A very short game for the $8. I would say to definitely play it though if you plan to play 1 and 2 which are far better games. This game was kind of a test run for the company I would say.
The art is enjoyable and fun to look at but they recycle scenes which can be visually unappealing while exploring one area to the next.
This game is one of the best Adventure games I've played. Most games in the genre I've played have really stupid/absurd puzzles that you could never reasonably expect a person to figure out, but this game mostly didn't have that problem with a couple exceptions.
One big problem with this game is navigating. There's no in-game map and there are certain parts of the game, a cave specifically, where you pretty much have to draw a map or look one up. If you like doing that sort of thing, that's cool, but other than getting confused about where to go and where you've been it can get extremely tedious to backtrack to get needed items or to find your way around. There is a lot of wasted time spent backtracking and walking through areas with nothing really in them. This could easily be fixed with a map that would allow the player to fast-travel to previous areas or at least a function where you can skip watching the character walk across screens to locations you've already been (like in Monkey Island).
This biggest flaw with this game that I know of is that there are two ways that you can screw yourself over making the game unbeatable. The first one, which is what made me have to stop playing for now, is to do with apples. There are 2 or 3 apples in the entire game and you HAVE to have one for a part of the game later on. If you play this, MAKE SURE you keep at least one apple (and not just the core). The other one, which I've only read of, is that when you come to an ocean/beach with a couple of Pegasus statues, if you proceed without the necessary items (I'd advice just looking them up once you think you have all of them just to make sure) you can get stuck in the next area with no passage back.
I wish I had more room to discuss everything, but those were important to mention to anyone playing it for the first time. In my opinion, this game has great voice-acting, very funny dialogue, great music, beautiful art, and mostly decent gameplay. I recommend picking it up.
Firstly of all, you NEED a walkthrough. This is completely impossible without it.
For Deaf gamers, this has the option to turn subtitles on. You will need to press ESC to skip the intro, click options and turn on the subtitles then restart the game and the intro as well as the rest of the game will be fully subbed.
As a kid, I played Hand of Fate (Part 2) with my brother on our 486/66. The graphics were amazing for its time but the puzzles simply stumped us. Fast forward 23 years and the entire trilogy is on GoG. Of course I had to buy them all just so I could finish them all and get some peace.
The ridiculously illogical puzzles (and that damn maze) aside, this game simply oozes charm. Classic pixel art, witty banter (if a little short) and just a pure nostalgia trip. Finally, I have clocked this game.
Looking forward to Hand of Fate. Well done, GoG!
The gameplay is horribly outdated, unlike many other great point and click games. Breaking your save game early into the game, without knowing it until many hours into the game is simply a waste of time and a mechanic I'm glad the industry has gotten rid off.
Can only recommend it with a walkthrough by your side.
90s Western adventure game. 2/5.
...Yea, this was more charming in my childhood memory. Graphics still hold up to this day. Can't say the same for the rest.
Bare plot of teen parody book humor. Weird puzzles. Death and dead ends while game design is rough. Backtrack for randomly placed items. A bloody maze, of cooooourse.
Malcolm, the clown villian, is truly the highlight of the game, he is just lovely, along with graphics. The rest is....
90s Western adventure games alert!
What should I even do with these games backlog now that I've outgrown my blind nostalgia??
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
