Hardcore, rewarding.

My time spent with the prequel to Legend of Grimrock 2, was a time of learning. Mastering clunky interface, pushing my face up against walls to seek out those switches, to find every secret I possibly could. Naturally, however, despite the many ups and downs, I had a great time with the game - and I'm having a great time with Legend of Grimrock 2 as well. The improvements over the original serve to make the gameplay much smoother and more enjoyable. The key components of the game, such as leveling and improving ones party are vastly more accessible to even the casual observer - and every level-up is a guaranteed, and often noticeable increase in power that is oh-so satisfying to see. The game is as challenging as its predecessor and it requires one not just to reminisce about playing pen-and-paper D&D over their gaming table, but to also learn to play the game for themselves. That it mixes both a player's skill, as well as that of their characters - is not an accomplishment easily reached. The addition of more engaging set-pieces enriches the world of Grimrock - the verdant wildlands, marshes and egyptian-inspired settings bring a spice and mystery to the world you're exploring that engages a lot more than fancier and fancier-looking dungeon corridors (though there are enough to sate the dungeoneer's needs as well) As a shameless plug, and hopefully further advertisement for the game, I've started a Let's Play Series on Youtube. Masterpiece!

So deep experience, yet accessible! Much better that Grimrock 1 in every aspect, much larger, cleverer puzzles, logical and yet no too much obvious. This game gives much better experience and is more rewarding, that all AAA titles of past year combined. This is how you make a game! Game from the word "game" or "play", not just some "virtual reality" bullshit or scripted shooter which tries to impress you with excellent audiovisuals, but game itself is poor. It is exceptionally rewarding if you figure out all puzzles yourself... again, masterpiece. Bravo, Almost Human, looking forward to Grimrock 3 and custom dungeons.

Don't let the looks fool you.

It's a very good old - school puzzle RPG actually, with rich class customization, imersive and thematic world, good progression, smart puzzles, decent combat and a nice story to boot. It's a pinnacle of "doing much with very little" philosophy, and that makes it even more enjoyable. This game is not much of a looker, with poor music, dated design and restrictive systems. Overall, If you can live with its shortcomings, you'll find a very good and very engaging product here, worthy of 8/10 it gets from me.

not feeling it

Classic first person dungeon crawling should be an epic adventure, specially with such a gorgeous and interesting game. The game implements clever use of physics to solve puzzles and lots of rriddles and truckloads of secret areas, Unfortunately there are a few things that put me off, mostly the lack of a vendor which rendersmost of the loot worthless, being unable to buy food, ammo, or weapons I could actually use was really disappointing . The spellcasting system is clunky and slow, which is compunded by the atrocious UI scaling, I could not play this game at 1440p because the text would look so small I wasn't able to read it and the little casting grid is barely visible. And finally, the only bug I found, the game crashed so hard when I changed the resiolution that I had to reboot my PC Great concept with poor execution, I was really hoping for another great hit like Bard's Tale 4, but I just couldn't bear it for more than a few hours , and I sincerelky wish that was not the case, I really wanted to fall in love with this game.

Annoying Puzzles

I've played part 1 and can't really remember to be bored at any time. I'm into part 2 now for 11 hours and will stop playing. The games start nicely on the beach and all but there is just no storyline to be found. After 11 hours I still don't know what I'm doing and how what I'm doing contributes to a story. Ok, I would not mind that so much if the gameplay was ok. But I'm currently in the serpent pyramid and it is just soo annoying. All the time you do the same things over and over, especially annyoing: You have to find the right plate combination. OR you have to solve crazy cryptic puzzles like the tomb treasure puzzle in the pyramid from which I had not clue at all it was a puzzle at all! (– until I looked it up. Also the game just becomes so confusing because of the large maps. You can make notes on the map, which is cool feature all games should have, but still, because there is no story, you have no idea where you actually should go and just feel lost half of the time with 20 question marks all over the place. That's why I quit playing now. As I wrote, the puzzles just become a pain after you did some of them and I don't see how the game could become any better.
