Opis

Labyrinth of the Demon King is a challenging first-person dungeon crawler, set against the backdrop of a mythical feudal Japan besieged by demons. As a lone foot soldier, embark on a quest to track down and slay the Demon King who killed your Lord. But will you have the skill, resources and stamina needed to survive through all the horrors this brutal world will throw at you?

"The world is in chaos, and has entered the latter age of the Dharma.
Society is crumbling and war has spread throughout the country.
Disease and famine have killed thousands, and demons walk the very earth itself.
You are an 'Ashigaru', a foot soldier in the service of Lord Takeda Nobumitsu.

Deceived by a powerful demon king, your lord led his army into an ambush. All perished except for you. Against your wishes your lord sacrificed his life to aid your escape from the battle.

You have made a vow to track down the demon who betrayed your lord and end its life.
You take what could possibly be your final breaths on this mortal plane, and prepare yourself to enter…

The Labyrinth of the Demon King!"

Features:

Discover A Grim World

Immerse yourself in the foreboding, dark world of the Demon King, a setting inspired by feudal Japan and brought to life in a gorgeous retro-grim art style. Complete with dither filters for that genuine PS1 feel.

Prove Yourself in Combat

Arm yourself with your wits and a select range of weapons, from katanas and naginatas to muskets and bows, as you engage in brutal, challenging combat. Revel in accomplishment and extreme satisfaction as you take down various Yōkai from ancient myth, and other horrific abominations that dwell in the labyrinth.

Explore the Labyrinth

As you trudge through the dark, twisted corridors of the Labyrinth, explore every nook and cranny for limited resources. Sets of armor and talismans change your fortunes in combat, and important clues help solve puzzles laid out before you by the Demon King.

Decide, Friend or Foe?

Engage with other strange characters on your journey. Some offer things you might need, others a simple moment of respite, but be careful who you decide to trust - it could affect your fate.

As a horror title, Labyrinth features blood, gore, and scenes that many users may find discomforting or gross. All violence is presented in a heavily stylized, pixelated/low-poly format. Enemies can be dismembered additionally.

The Modern Day Shadow Tower

Elden Ring got me into the FromSoft formula, & I still love it, but 1 day, I happened to randomly hear about King's Field in A Gameranx video, & got curious enough to research because of the first-person perspective (something practically unheard of from Japanese developers), my research told me that it, & the spinoff series, Shadow Tower, pioneered all the tropes that the Souls games later popularized; & that got me curious enough to download them both to emulate. After that, I found out about a bunch of "Soulsborne" games that're played from a first-person perspective, which I immediately made them play more like King's Field & Shadow Tower than a traditional Soulsborne; that's why I came up with a new, more appropriate term for such games that I even made into a Steam tag in an attempt to get it into popular use; "King's-heir". Monomyth was the 1st prominent example of a King's-heir I saw; clearly designed from the ground up to be a spiritual successor to King's Field, even using the same font for its title as the Japan exclusive 1st King's Field game. I saw & even played the demos for a lot of King's-heir games in between that & playing 1st the demo, then the full version of this game, but even though I haven't yet gotten very far in it (been trying to figure out how to get the pantry key from the cat without taking the butsudan statue & having to deal with the Nuribotoke), I have to say Labryinth of the Demon King's 1 of the better King's-heir games I've played; only I'd say it leans more towards the Shadow Tower end of the King's-heir spectrum than the King's Field end; hence the reviews title; sharing Shadow Towers strong horror focus, & being structured similarly. I'm not really a fan of Horror games other than the type here you can still fight back against the threat, but if you were a Shadow Tower fan back in the day, & you're looking for a game to scratch that itch, this King's-heir, Labryinth of the Demon King, is the game you're looking for.

Ps1 style Jhorror at it's best

Slow and meditative in the best way possible. Slow burn horror, great chunky old style graphics. Silent Hill +King's Field+Onimusha vibes.

Love Kingsfield? That is your game

This game is just beautiful. The atmosphere is intense and gritty. The graphics are a perfect blend between ps1 and ps2 graphics with rough pixels. The gameplay is kinda similar to Kingsfield or Lunacid but with more combos, defense options and tactics becasue enemies feint attacks and plan ambushes so you need to learn the combat a bit to get comfortable. You have a very simpel upgrade system but it just works flawlessly. The puzzles are not too hard and just do what they need to make the dungeons more interesting. In my oppinion. In my oppinion the only downside so far is that the bosses are a bit easy and the sometimes fast respawn of enemies. But its only minor flaws. In my oppinion this game is a total must have for any dungeon crawler fan.

More than just Silent Hill homage

This game is truly something special. You can see tith passion and true understandment what made old survival horror titles so engaging, scary and full of imagination. It is not perfect, pretty short, but man, I love indie games like this!

Stylish and not much else.

This King's Field-like carries a confident, grungy aesthetic that recalls the low-fidelity horror of old Playstation games. But its presentation makes cover for a shallow game with no edge or interesting ideas. The game's premise, that of entering a corrupted feudal Japanese estate/castle to uncover a source of evil, feels stuck in first gear from the outset. There's no tension or escalation in its design (nor storytelling). The first hour passes much like the last. I wandered, lost, more than a couple of times. It wasn't a puzzle (there's scarcely any) or demons that stumped me: it was sliding doors that looked like walls. Despite its grotesque appearance, the game's combat is neat and tidy, as are the levels that give the feeling of being in a labyrinth, but are in fact dull interiors filled with imposter doors. (Nothing evokes fear of the unknown like a clearly marked map). Some ideas are half-kidnapped from other games and left to shamble. There are level transition door animations, but these are make-believe loading screens, and there's too much brawling to evoke terror for most of its playtime, so I began skipping them entirely not an hour in. Demons reappear between levels, but the game respawns the annoying ones, so there's hardly even a meta cheesing strategy. One persistent nonthreatening horror became so familiar that, when the opportunity to banish it forever came up, I merely shrugged--I was at the finale anyway. The sense of adventure or descent into madness from 1 hour spent in a Thief or Dark Souls level is not found in this game's entirety. Nor are the combat tactics/attrition and variety of RPG dungeon crawlers. I do not wholly regret my time with LoTDK, but it is a letdown. The older, rougher games it draws inspiration from are all more worthy of attention.
