Kitaria Fables is a delightfully cute action adventure RPG with farming and crafting! Enter the cute world of Kitaria and take on the quests of your animal neighbours as they face a rising tide of darkness. Real time combat, exploration and dungeoneering sit alongside farming for provisions and the crafting of weapons and armour, and forging new spells to increase your power.
A peaceful land where nature lives in harmony - until now. As the wildlife around Paw Village becomes increasingly aggressive, The Empire has called upon you to investigate and defend its citizens. Make your way to Paw Village to your Uncles home, and from your new base, explore the huge world teaming with wildlife, resources and loot to help you in the long journey ahead.
Wield melee weapons and bows and forge new spells. Kit your loadout in a way which suits your preferred style of battle and craft magic, weapons and armour which compliment your play style. Do your prefer to burn your enemies from a distance, freeze them where they stand, or trust in sword or bow to do your damage?
You'll need much more than brute strength and magic to survive the coming darkness. The world of Kitaria is full of resources for you to use to your advantage. Slay monsters for ingredients, plant seeds and tend to your crops for provisions and gather materials and ores to craft more powerful weapons, armour and accessories.
Kitaria Fables is full of friendly (and not so friendly!) citizens. Make yourself known to your neighbours and fulfil their requests. The more you bond with your new friends, the more rewards you will receive as your relationships grow!

When Kitaria Fables works it works really well. But when its issues begin to arise, the experience of playing through it can get awfully frustrating. These unnecessary design oversights detract from the game's clear strengths. Regardless, it isn't bad, and given its relatively cheap retail price, it is probably worth giving a shot.

Kitiara Fables is a fun action RPG, with significant time spent farming in between quests. Though there are some issues with couch co-op, the story is still entertaining enough to recommend a look.

Trying too hard
For those too lazy to read: Save your money, buy something else. It's understandable that with the success of Stardew Valley others try to copy it. But most fail. Hard. This is a fine example of such failure. At first glance it seems like an updated 3D version of SV, which would be nice, but as soon as you actually start playing you'll quickly notice two things: Sluggish controls and loading times. LONG loading times. The game world is devided into dozens of, often needlessly small, maps crossing them quite literally is regularly faster than loading the next map. This screams serious memory management issues. The game doesn't really use that much ram but not due to good programming but because the developers were unable to cope with the whole map loaded and instead every few steps the world is just discarded from ram and the next piece loaded. Ouch! Secondly, the controls aren't what you'd call smooth. Movement response is sluggish and imprecise and fighting therefore is arduous and more a game of luck than actual combat. And there's a lot of fighting, too much actually. But that's something most SV copycats suffer from - since they're lacking original ideas they just fill the void with more enemies. Third, item usage shortcut and quickslot management is a mess. The game strictly adheres to gamepad-like controls even though it's not a console game. With a real console-type game you get a quickselect wheel or similar to efficiently and quickly choose items and tools from and a non-console game simply uses that big keyboard in front of you. This game does neither and it does it badly. Oh, and selecting from the inventory during fighting is a bad idea - time does not stop to let you think and plan. Bad design decision. And the game world itself is missing a lot. It appears too artificial and without depth, npcs are little more than quest markers and the story tries too hard to be mysterious and interesting and falls short of both.

Dont be fooled
First off, I was gifted a copy of this on steam by a friend who wanted to played "local co-op" (e.g LAN/direct connect). We were UTTERLY disapointed to find out that the devs had no idea what "Local COOP" means and found out that its couch co-op (in other words you need two pads or whatever to play). I also found out that to skip cutscenes you need to hold ESC for about 2 seconds rather than just tap it like normal. By the time I got into game and was getting about 15 frames a second (highest detail on a decent system) I had enough. I've already read enough about this game and how it's missing any kind of decent features like friendships, marriages, proper farming to know that I wasn't going to waste any more time. My friend promptly refunded his copy and the one gifted. the game itself is just a basic combat game with no fun combat mechanics and is advertised as something its not in ALL areas. don't waste your time if you're looking for something like Stardew or harvest moon with a little extra. The devs have tried to advertise this game as something it isnt and expect people to accept what it is.
