I may not have it on GOG but I did have it on the original xbox.
It was really good for its times (we are talking before warriors orochi and the facelift that gave dynasty warriors the place it had not too long ago). Although, it becomes repetitive late game; it also becomes addictive and leaves you with a “wow! Why I didn’t have access to that unit before!??” type of feeling.
Sadly, do consider that is a 2004 game, so there’s so much that you can do in terms of graphics (hopefully there will be a sweetFX) and it will feel clunky at times but it is a really good niche game for “beat em all” lover.
If you don’t feel sure about it, wait for a sale but GET IT, most likely you won’t regret it.
Thank you GOG from bringing this gem back!
I don't have it on GoG (yet) because I foolishly bought it on Steam before it came to GoG.
I first played this game in a demo before it came out when I was a child, and immediately fell in love with it. When the game came out on Xbox, I played the entire game with my friend. We were never able to finish Kendal's campaign, and only won the last mission on Lucretia's campaign by complete luck (A forgotten cavalry unit set to scout the map just happened to arrive at the last moment to save the day). It was a blast.
I have played it again on Xbox about 2 years ago, and then again on PC when it came out. It is still a lot of fun. I have yet to find any games quite like it, and KUF2 definitely does not live up to the same standard as Crusaders and Heroes.
For a list of some problems with the game:
For graphical issues, the colours of the maps can look a lot like the enemy orcs, so you can't really see what you are doing. Or when you are trying to find that last unit in a squad but just can't seem to find them (Tip: Follow the direction your units are facing).
Balance-wise, once you get to the endgame, you are rarely using your main character in combat because you are busy moving your archers into position and pathing your cavalry/spamming the healing spell of your faction. And you find some units are just leagues ahead of others, and you'll find you just don't have reason to bring, say, a unit of ballistae, over a cavalry/archer unit.
Controls: It doesn't play well on keyboard and mouse, at least by default. I used a controller and had a much better time with it.
Story: The story does reference the previous game a lot which very few people have played, (I know I haven't) and can get a bit exposition heavy at points.
Outside of the above, this is an amazing game, still worthy of 5 stars. I have enjoyed it every time I have played it and I absolutely recommend you buy it when you can, it is well worth the money.
I feel Blueside could have done more in porting their flagship title to the PC. The game functions without much issue, from what I've seen, but it lacks any sort of settings you would expect from a PC title. The options menu is bare of any sort of graphical changes--resolution, texture detail, anything of the sort is missing.
But again, the game functions without issue so far, so I'm just happy to see one of my favorite XBOX games now on PC.
Maaaan i remember playing this on the demo CD. I instantly fell in love with it, the unique play style (micro managing your units, gears, skills, and using your main hero for some hacknslash action) and ofcourse the glorious music that makes you run into battle even if you have no pants on.
Sadly i couldn't find copy anymore (atleast english version) because the xbox360 came out, so the older games slowly disapeared from the shelves. And getting a copy from the net wasn't really a thing back then. So i moved on.
And after more then a decade, it popped up on steam. Like seeing an old friend rise from the grave, i was so happy. Wanted to buy it immideatly but then i was like, hold up, what if its on GOG too. I checked but nothing, but i wanted to wait just incase. And after a few weeks (if i remember correctly) badabim badaboom under Coming Soon section there it was.
Long story short bought it played it loved it. Sure its outdated graphicly for some ( i don't mind), in the last minute they had to censore the word Pope so the sound is cut out and Patriarch is written instead in the subtitles. Sometimes the sound can be overwhelming especialy if there a lot of troops clumped up, but a little sound adjusting will do the trick. The maps aren't huge and the objectives are simple (defend this, destroy that the usual, 4 missions in particular pretty frustrating). 1 easy 1 normal and 2 hard difficulty campaigns, each having a different personal goal and a different view of the ongoing "situations". For me a good 35hours well spent. Good VA, characters have personality, not just brainless puppets, good story even if it feels short or ends abruptly. But i don't care, even with its cracks and dents i loved everysecond of it.
Sorry for the long ramble lol
