Beautiful but still buggy

The game has a lot of character and a beautifully crafted world that serves as a great insight towards life in medieval europe. It still has issues, for some users it seems worse than others but I have also experienced glitches here and there. Nothing game breaking yet at least, from my experience so far and with every patch and update, which is still an ongoing process, the game gets a little bit better. Will it ever run flawlessly and super well optimized? Probably not, but i still think the best is yet to come for Kingdom Come Deliverance and we'll be seeing further improvements on all fronts. That being said i'm satisified with the performance and technical issues aren't anything major for me so far. If you are into the historical period and rpgs, and you also have a fairly decent PC and a modicum of patience i'd give it a shot. I consider my PC to be 'upper-mid range' by 2018 standards. I'm playing on a GTX 1060, i7 4790 and 16gb DDR3. I also have it installed on an SSD, maybe that helps with textures but i'm not sure. Loading times are ok, and i'm playing on a mix of high and medium settings at 1080p. It will occasionally drop to 40fps but usually is closer to 60fps. So some food for thought before you make a decision. I also got the game on the GOG anniversary sale for 25 dollars along with two other good games so I think i got myself a real bargain, but otherwise the GOG price is reasonable, compared to other vendors.

Fun Historical RPG

The Good --Entertaining story in an open world. --Enemies are not scaled to your level, so discretion can be the better part of valour. --Strives for realism while maintaining gameplay. For example, you start as a blacksmith who only knows the pointy end of the sword goes into the other guy. You are terrible at combat, but as you train and level up, the combat becomes easier until you can take anyone single handedly. --Gameplay balance includes "magical" things like potions (made with alchemy) to restore your health, see better in the dark, a map that always shows your location (on Normal difficulty), etc. --Historical fiction with plenty of background notes on life in the middle ages and the real people you meet. --Good graphics, good voice acting (for the most part), solid writing with some fantastic parts here and there. --(Relatively) stable. --I personally enjoy the combat mechanics, as it makes one vs one simple, but one vs many difficult (as I assume it would be in real life). Some people hate it, though, so watch some YouTube videos on how combat works. The Bad --Graphics are good, when your card can catch up to rendering what's around you. --I experienced a few crashes in almost 100 hours of gameplay, and only minor bugs, but others have serious issues with getting the game to run consistently. --It's not a big deal, but the game ends with essentially To Be Continued. That's not to say that ended abruptly without any closure, but think of it as the ending of the first book in a series. Most plot lines have been resolved, but there is an overarching plot that will be explored more in a later iteration. The Ugly --Some quests are time sensitive; others are not. Not terrible, but there's no way to know which ones are which. Sometimes a quest will tell you to do something that night, but you can sit on it for weeks with no failure. Others hint that you should probably do it sooner rather than later, but with no indication that you will fail if you don't

Great... but bugged

Game is quite good, I would say, BUT... Horrible save game system only for hardcore players, masochist or people that have a large amount of spare time. Fortunately, it can be remedied by an appropriate mod, so USE IT! The game becomes actually enjoyable then. After 25h of gameplay, bugs began to appear such as long game startup, extremely slow texture rendering, frequent game freezes, slow map and inventory opening. Trying to fix it with mods but nothing is working so far...

Game great,tutorials and direction awful

Game is great and I have fun playing it, while I was told correctly what to do, but game repeatedly either puts tutorials way after they are of any use, in the exact place that will kill you if (Why the fuck I need to know horse stats while I'm running away from enemies? If you put your "saddle horse" key enyewhere else than your "use" key, then FUCKING TELL THE PLAYER ABOUT IT BEFORE YOU PUT HIM/HER IN THE SITUATION WHERE LACK OF THIS KNOWLEDGE WILL 100% KILL THEM AND THEY WON;T EVEN BE ABLE TO TELL WHY THEY DIED, CAUSE INSTRUCTIONS ARE ONLY SHOWN FOR MILISECOND BEFORE YOUR DEAD WHILE YOUR RUNNING REPEATEDLY INTO THE HORSE AND WHEN YOU ALREADY GIVEN UP AND GOOGLED WHY ARE YOU DYING AND MANAGED TO KNOW THE "HORSE" KEY IS FUCKING X AND NOT E) or how game literally forces you into an archery turnament as your shooting tutorial that has in-game consequences. IF their system was easy as pointing at a target in straight line and just shooting without any problem, then it would be forgivable, not good, but forgivable, but CONSIDERING IT'S ONE OF THE MORE DIFFICULT I'VE EVER CAME ACROSS I JUST WISH THAT DESIGNER OF THAT TUTORIAL WILL HAVE THEIR HANDS CUT OFF AND FORCE TO WRITE GAMES IN BASIC WITH THEIR STUMPS TO THE END OF THEIR ARTIFICIALLY ENLONGED LIFE JUST TO MAKE THEIR SUFFERING LONGER. Or how the tutorial for lockipicking is AFTER the mission that one of two ways out requires the knowledge of how to lockpick... Or how the game insists that changing focused enemies in-fight is mouse wheel, but it clearly does HORSE SHIT AND THE ACTUAL CHANGE IS DONE BY SOME COMBIANTION OF TAB WITH I DON'T EVEN KNWO WHAT CAUSE I DON;T HAVE TIME TO THINK ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING WHILE BEING MURDERED BY 4 GUYS THAT I CANNOT EVEN FACE, CAUSE SOMEONE DECIDED THAT SIMPLY PRESSING TAB TO CYCLE THROUGH ENEMIES IN WHATHEVER MANNER THEY'D DECIDE UPON IS APPARENTLY TOO EASY ON PLAYERS AND THEY SHOUDL SUFFER.

Good story, but tedious to play.

The story is enjoyable, but the game mechanics is quite tedious to work with. Grindy game with a lot of bugs. Weapon swing is very slow and requires a lot of real time hours to grind for you to get faster, but you are still required to time attacks and execute everything perfectly to win. Stealth is not an option either, because enemies has super human senses who can sense anything you do. Health, rest, eating is all fun and all but it gets annoying after a while. Constantly reminded that you are weak peasant who nobody cares about, which is true but the game is designed for you to be the hero. Most NPC are always too incompetent to do anything, crimes, investigations are always given to you alone and yet everyone else always think they are smarter and better than you. Going about my daily routine in life is more enjoyable than this game. Exploration and story is the only thing that keeps me interested and even that does not keep me engaged for very long. Great concept, but it is not a game that I find very particular fun or enjoyable. Honestly, just find yourself a good book to read or movie to watch and save yourself hours of fetch quest, clear area quest and frustrating game mechanics.
