Dive into an adrenaline-fuelled free-roaming adventure!
As agent Rico Rodriguez, your orders are to find and kill your friend and mentor who has disappeared on the island paradise of Panau. There, you must cause maximum chaos by land, sea and air to shift the balance of power. With the unique grapple and parachute combo, BASE jump, hijack and create your own high-speed stunts. With 400 square miles of rugged terrain and hundreds of weapons and vehicles, Just Cause 2 defies gravity and belief.
Features:
UNIQUE VERTICAL GAMEPLAY - Take to the air like no other game. Experience total aerial freedom with the unique parachute and dual grapple
UNBELIEVABLE ADRENALINE-FUELLED STUNTS - Free fall, base jump, vehicle surf, para sail, skydive, grapple, slingshot, leap between vehicles, hang from helicopters, scale buildings. The impossible is within your grasp.
UPGRADED DUAL GRAPPLE - Your best tool is now a weapon. Fire two shots with the grapple hook and attach unwilling enemies to high-speed vehicles, hang them upside down from buildings, tether objects in mid air. The possibilities are as vast as your imagination.
DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF PANAU - Explore the island paradise; from sprawling cities, secluded beaches and towering mountain peaks – more than 400 square miles of your own personal playground.
EXPERIENCE TRUE FREEDOM - Hundreds of objectives can be completed in any way or order that you choose. When it’s time for a break from Agency business, kick back and enjoy all the attractions that Panau has to offer.
MASSIVE SELECTION OF VEHICLES - Catch air on a high-speed dirt bike, race across the sea in a power boat, or fire a spread of rockets from an attack chopper – more than 100 land, sea and air vehicles are yours for the taking.
One of my favorite open world games. It's an older game so you have to limit fps to 60fps, otherwise it crashes. I just set the monitor to 60fps. I have this on Steam as well and on there I use /frameratecap=60 in the launch options. I like this for just flying around in an army jet and using rockets on pretty much everything. Great, mindless, open-world fun.
Just Cause 2 expands on everything good about the original, beefs up the graphics, and fixes the vehicle handling. JC2 also seems to take a cue from the Red Faction games with massively destructible structures - given they're enemy strongholds are enemy assets. The even bigger sandbox, variety of weapons and vehicles, grappling hook & parachute, mission variety, and dark satire of geo political reality are all present - and this time with gamepad support! Now there are three factions, each with their own agendas, to do various missions for as well as the regime you're to take down. The graphics hold up well and run at max settings on even entry level GPUs post 2015.
Got this game for 5€ and I am glad it is not more than that. After roughly 20 minutes it keeps crashing or has a white screen. It has this bug with the 1.0 version and I don't know if there is a patch, I will check this. Please GOG fix this version if you can.
It's a great game. The combat, movement and vehicles are cool and the scale of it is just... wow
Tho some things are scaled back to balance the gameplay (eh the speed of planes) but overall it's a great experience and lots of content
As Iconoclast92 said, this is prone to crashing: frequently crashes on initial launch, crashes at the end of the cinematics, randomly crashes while in the middle of a scenario. Glad I got it free.
Controls are inconsistent: in the first scenario, "Q" is melee attack, but the melee attack will absolutely not proc when facing the intended target (??!?) but only when facing away from it (??!??) causing the attack to miss. In all subsequent scenarios, "Q" cycles weapons (??!!??). WHY WOULD YOU CHANGE THAT?? In one of the last intro scenarios, you have to detonate explosives, but the game doesn't tell you how. I had to pause the game and google it, the solution is completely unintuitive and is not listed in the control layout in Options.
In nearly all intro scenarios, the grapple was good only for one-shot climbs. In the last one, it's suddenly capable of Spider-manning up tall buildings.
After the intro scenarios, you're left in a hub area where there are renewable health powerups BUT NO AMMO (???!!??) before you're expected to take on any of three different deep combat missions. I got involved in a street battle between federal forces and rebels just to get some ammo. In the intro scenarios, walking over a dropped weapon added its ammo to your inventory. Now, suddenly and unexpectedly, walking over a dropped weapon opens a popup during combat (???!!!??) asking you which of your current weapons you want to replace with the one on the ground.
Taking powerups is a crap-shoot. About half the time, pressing "E" does NOT take the item even when you need the health or ammo.
None of these changes are explained in-game or in the control layout, and several of the commands shown in the layout don't do in-game what is claimed in Options. And apparently after the first scenario, you don't have any melee abilities, so without ammo you are totally screwed.
Frustrating and annoying. I do not understand the high ratings for this nonsense.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
