This vortex leads to a fifth and, up until now, lost dimension. If he succeeds in defeating us, he will destroy our world, opening a gateway for his kind as well as the strange mutating effect that this dimension has on all organic life forms. His forces are far too strong for us to defeat in a frontal attack which is why we must send you to slip past his Omni-eye scanners and make an assassination attempt on the greatest evil that man has ever known. It will take absolutely all of your wits and skill but it is imperative you reach his fortress and send him back to the sulphurous plane from where he came.

Game purchase includes DOS, SNES, NES and Megadrive versions. You can switch between them in GOG Galaxy. Go to 'Manage Installation' -> 'Configure' -> 'Beta Channels'. You can also download all offline installers in 'Download offline backup game installers' section of your library.
I don't like the DOS Version. It's paralax scrolling is more irritating than pretty and it's controls are not very responsive. BUT the new NES version, Genesis version and the (presumably) updated S-NES version are playable with my favorite being the powerhouse NES Version. The letter one has a SUPERB presentation for a 8-BIT version. The intro of that version got my jaw dropping...
All versions play great. The classic releases would have been above-average titles for their time, and the recently developed NES version in particular feels very well made. I didn't expect to like the default/DOS version, but it's actually perfectly fine, and was nicely set up with controller support out of the box.
I played the DOS, SNES and Megadrive version so far.
The DOS-Version has intensive parallax-scrolling ... in the WRONG DIRECTION! Instead of leaving the world behind, it moves forward, faster than the player even. I don't know if this is a bug or "artistic freedom".
Also DOS computers were never really good when it comes to scrolling in general, other than the optimized chips in the Amiga and 16Bit consoles. Of course we are talking about emulation here, but the limitations are still the same. Even on a really fast computer you can see how the blocks are being moved one by one.
The game supports sound blaster, but you need to change the dosbox config file for digital soundeffects.

Since this game is based on a console version and not the Amiga original, it plays the music through the FM synthesizer. Would have been cool if they did the same trick as sunflower and reproduced the Amiga soundtrack through the wave channels, but no such luck.
The Megadrive version hatd a few changes in level design and controls, the smart bomb works completely different for example and the first boss actually shoots now.
After seeing these 3 ... Usually I would say that the Megadrive has the best version, but here I would pick the SNES version. It stays close to the original game when it comes to controls and level design and it has a surprisingly good soundtrack (while the Megadrive version sounds just as bad as most Megadrive games do).
If you have the chance, grab the Amiga version, which has by far the best soundtrack and requires more precision, it's best played with a digital joystick, not with a gamepad.
I hope that at some point we will get that one as well. Commodore's hold on the kickstart roms makes it difficult however.
Power up your laser rifle and give flight on every kind of mutant-looking enemy across all lands of the realm. An adventurer you are, embarking on a trapse through the land to a mutant lair across the other side of space! You must shoot anything that gets in your way now, so don't be shy get demon mutant nuking now. Pretty soon you will kill the master of mutant all before the finish of the day and feel happy you have got ridden of the zeno-morphs come together for only badness doing.
You're getting every kind of representation here, four save slots, and upscaling and fairly varied levels across platforms, arcades showing similar graphics only a few years before the game looks good even on simpler hardware but can you complete the mission with only your weaponary, you will have to see and give it your all for now and forever as in jim powers' high tech age gives in calculation. So thanks and I can see you getting me more platformerers so now sure friends gog humans!
