IXION combines city building, survival elements and exploration, into a thrilling space opera as you explore the stars. Propelled onwards through a perilous journey, you are the Administrator of the Tiqqun space station, charged with finding a new home for humanity.
Keeping the station sound and flying will require a deft hand and strategic thinking, as you are constantly pulled between maintaining hull integrity, bringing in new resources and managing power consumption.
What choices will you make when confronted with impending disaster? What will you discover out there in the dark?
A population to manage, survivors to find, cryopods to recover... Maintain your crew's trust in the corporation that started this venture, or face failure and mutiny. Six sectors can be unlocked within the station, each able to house more population, support new jobs, and provide opportunity to monitor the crew with the Data Listening System. Will you bring hope to the people?
Who said DOLOS was the only faction to escape the fate of the Earth? Brush up against other pockets of survivors, navigate on from the failures and wrecks of others… IXION will lead the player through gripping chapters of story, where new threats and opportunities are presented, all in aid of reaching the final destination, a new home.
DOLOS are famed for their innovative technology, their scientists, but the Tiqqun now finds itself cut off. Find what resources you can, research what you do not have. Find new ways to provide for your settlement, construct new buildings to create what’s needed. Modify the Tiqqun station, improve it, forge ahead in this odyssey.
Space is a dangerous place. Hull breaches, overloaded power supplies, electrical fires... It is up to you to manage these risks, deal with emergencies, create backup power solutions, and enable Extra Vehicular Activity…
There are whole new stellar maps to explore. Send out probes to reveal what’s hidden, create mining and cargo ships to find resources, commission science expeditions to discover the secrets and threats you’ll find out there in space. Encounter other survivors and bring them into the fold of your mission, objective - survive.
I found little to hate in Ixion, but also very little to love. Despite its features, it was cold. Ironically, it failed to capture the "warmth" of its inspiration, the thematically cold Frostpunk.
Ixion had:
Sci-fi-Check
Survival-Check
Base Building- Check
FrostPunk Elements- Check
and so on.
Despite having everything I like, it was more a list of checked off features. The attempt at urgency, which the story tries to convince you through dialogues and events( and a main story plot at the start which I found just silly), falls flat due to the spacing of events, laboursome resource mechanics, and the generic unity asset-like graphics and music.
What makes the mechanics a chore? There are too many arbitrary systems that clutter the game's pacing. You have close to 10 resources, as opposed to Frost punks main 3. You need to store all of these and use these to make more resources, which you also have to store. With these you build things, which requires manpower and power resources.
To get resources you have 3 types of ships- one that mines, one that picks up, and one that “mines” and gets events. But before you can do any of these, you need to build probes to scan the system and find events and resources. Each probe is one use only, so you have to build a new one after each use, you cannot build a bunch at once. Having done all this, ships move like racing snails… and this is super fast mode.
There are more, but these are the most glaring. To me the main issues are spacing and theme. If they reduced the resources, sped things up, and either removed or reworked the probing system, the game would not have a lot of... dead space. Graphically rough-up the buildings, have parts of the ship in shreds that need work to build up, add more clutter and shanty homes.
In my 3 hours+ the game's pace did not pick up, always remaining mediocre. Not worth it's full price, and might not be worth paying 10$. I am having it refunded since it is not worth my time.
Graphics are nice, controlls are okay but the game always crashes at the same spot which makes it unplayable for me.
My pc is way above minimum specs and drivers are all updated. Problem is known but there are no solutions that work.
I played all the way through and enjoyed it. It's an odd combo of spaceship and city builder. Some game mechanics are very difficult to understand. It's very easy to make a mistake and lose the game if you don't use online guides.
exactly what came into my mind seeing the intro, another illogical tedious and unnecessary suffering, like Frostpunk.. many games do this 'trick' to trigger self-worth approval complex, they just eat your time with nonsense tasks, instead of making logically behaving BELIEVABLE ecosystem, you have to evolve and fine-tune..
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
