Opis
HROT is a single-player retro FPS set in a small socialist country neighboring Soviet Union (Czechoslovakia) after an unspecified disaster in 1986. Those times were dark and terrifying and so is the game.
You start in a civil defense shelter deep under a Prague Metro station. As a proud holder of the military readiness badge you know what your duty is: put on a non-functioning gas mask, load the vz. 52 pistol and protect the peace and your socialist homeland from the strange intruders*.
- The classic gameplay and vibe of romeric shooters from 1990s including a fitting brown retro aesthetic.
- You'll find a shotgun, a vz. 13 SMG, a rocket launcher and even some secret experimental Soviet battery-powered weapons (e.g. a ball lightning launcher). If you run out of ammo, you might find the hammer and sickle coming in handy.
- Handcrafted levels inspired by real locations with an emphasis on historical details. Every level contains socialist paraphernalia which nowadays can only be found in museums or your grandma's attic (Eastern Bloc only).
- Flushable toilets and destructible light bulbs.
- A custom engine written in Pascal imitating 1990s software-style rendering with unfiltered textures and polygon jitter.

Good but not great Quake 1 style shooter
One of the many Indie shooters that went through early access hell and now that it's finally fully out, it's good, but rather dissapointing after how much it had been hyped. While I get that the whole thing is satire of soviet communism, the aggresive brown color pallete gets old and repatative quick. Environements are all over the place. Some are well detailed and have a descent level of interactivity, others are empty and confusing (also featuring multiple sewer levels. yay.) This means that, while there are some high highs, there are a fair amount of seriously low lows. The game can also be rather punishing at times because of how stingy it is on resources. This is a boomer shooter, not a survival horror. Most of the game will be relying on the shotgun and grenades, because most of the other weapons barely get any ammo. And the first episode is extra stingy on health. There's also no story as to what is going on. While boomer shooters aren't known for story telling, they usually at least clue you in as to what's happening. Not this one. I'm not asking for a cutscene heavy movie game (and honestly those have their own problems) but I would at least like to know what I'm working towards. On the plus side, there are a good amount of enemies. Some of which have some pretty crazy designs and quirks to them. There are also some interesting and unexpected boss fights. On the whole ,the game is alright but it should have come out years ago. now there are better quake 1 style games out, and I would reccomend getting and playing through those before picking this one up. Otherwise wait for a sale.

A weak quake clone
The title says it all. It is an inferior quake clone. Several of the mobs might have been lifted directly from quake. The guns are not satisfying and the levels are mono chromatic. All that said for a cheap enough deal this game has some potential.

It's fine.
It's an alirght boomer shooter. I mostly played it for the soviet aesthetic, which is just there for flavour, there isn't really a plot in this. But hey, when you beat a chapter you at least get a Czech recipe out of it. Hahaha.
