So let me get this out of the way - first of all, I hate using the "Skill Issue!" argument. Some things are GENUINELY unfair in games. Like, no, I don't think 1 hit KO attacks should exist - that's bull! But here's the thing. If you haven't played Hollow Knight itself first, PLAY HOLLOW KNIGHT. Not only is it still good to this day, you had, what, 7-8 years? IT WILL GIVE YOU THE REFLEXES NEEDED. ...have you beaten Radiance? Good, alright. This game is hard - it's supposed to be that way. No more are the days of just using Fragile Strength and savescumming through the game. Sorry! The entire first game got you prepared for this. This game will kick you ass, and oh boy does it feel good to kick its ass back when you beat a boss. When you learn its patterns, it is super satisfying. When you finally learn an enemy's jist, you clear through areas like they're nothing. "but the enemies deal 2 damage all the time!" I hear you say. And I present to you your midair 3-mask heal, and, surprise, NOT GETTING HIT! The game punishes you more for getting hit, knowing you've already played a game that getting hit in was LESS punishing! This game makes you use your toolkit to its fullest. It will turn you inside out. Take breaks if needed. That being said, artistry by the developers, Christopher Larkin - it's back and better than ever here. Beautiful as the day they left us. Difficulty is tuned up to make it so defeating bosses feels rewarding by itself. This game has much more focus on the raw mechanics than your charm setup, which I really like since I kinda got worn out after learning that Fragile Strength just hard clears a lot of things. Every boss has patterns you need to learn. Telegraphed nicely, nothing too unclear - it's amazing. It's worth your time, it's worth your 20 dollars. Worth every second of the wait.
