An almost TOO metroidvanian Metroidvania
Another review already says it all. Save poins are spread a bit thin, and the requirement to find the mapmaker and intransparency as to when you can buy the map in the town shop instead are a bit annoying. It's great to find a new secret path, door or elevator around every corner, but it's TOO easy to get "lost in exploration" without a way to track your progress on the way, especially in south-western areas. "Inconvenience" comes to mind. However, I do see the advantages. Maybe this should be an option in the menu. Other than that: The game offers loads of content. The art is astonishing and thematic. The soundtrack is incredibly beautiful (and some of it makes for good Curse of Strahd music). It is about as challenging as you want it to be. There is a ton of endgame. The combat is great and clean (as always, spell builds are op). For 15 bucks, this is a steal. I'm not following the gaming scene too closely, but believe this to currently still be the uncontested best metroidvania on the market. It may not appeal to you if you are more into shooting things tho.

Highly recommended!
This game is a masterpiece. The music and sound is atmospheric, the graphics are beautiful and smooth (very consistent frame rate), there is a vast area to explore, lots of challenging bosses and character upgrades to get. If you enjoyed Super Metroid I suspect that you will enjoy this too!

oh, it's everything great!
I have not played many games before, and I think choosing this game as one of my first has been a delightful challenge! I consider this game to be very hard for my level of "expertise" (none), but it doesn't frustate me. The desire to discover mor of this world, what happened to it's inhabitants, the mysteries and secrets of those underground caves... Not to mention the incredible desgin of creatures, areas, items. And all of it tied to incredible music and sound design, completing the tone and atmosphere. This game is very very hard, and I feel very excited to get to be better at it. I'm really glad I bought it! Thanks!

Most immersive game I've ever played
I went into Hollow Knight blind, without expectations and I do think this is the best way to play the game. Progerssion felt really good as a person who hasn't played any other platformers. The game was gradually increasing in difficulty as I learned to play the game. I never felt like I don't belong in a specific area, or too underpowered against a boss. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing in this game. The sound design, the score, the art style, the effects, all of this cumulates in an experience that will be memorable to those who care about atmosphere in games. The different areas all have their unique motifs, details. The story is vague and cryptic, but those who read everything, pay attention to the environment can definitely piece together what's going on. Despite it being a game about bugs, it made me cry a couple times which says a lot because I pretty much never do from media. The reason I say it's the most immersive game I ever played because the whole game is extremely well thought out, how different systems interact with each other, and how it's presented to the player. Pretty much the only thing that breaks immersion is the little text that says which button you need to press to use a newly acquired ability. Everything makes sense in the world of the game. Bestiary, waypoints/travelling, upgrades, abilities, the map, everything seems neatly integrated into the world of Hallownest. This combined with the beautiful artwork, amazing score and atmosphere, engaging and fun bossfights, emotional story make this game my favorite of all time to this day (and I played a lot of games, from indie to AAA).
