Amazing new IP that keeps on giving

Let me start by saying that I platinumed this game on PS4 (platform of preference for these kind of games) after having played it on PC for some hours. It is one of the around 10 games in my life that I played until I had all the available achievements/trophies. Please note that on PS no speedrun or no death run is required for this feat thus I do not know how much extra time these would take. I think the average player will finish the game in around 30-40 hours. For these hours you expect the classic Metroidvania experience on fantastic world map with a diverse set of enemies, areas and bosses. Upgrade system is very simple and easy to use and great in terms of game design and the charms allow you several builds (spell focus, DPS focus, melee focus, survival focus, HP recovery focus or any mix and match you can imagine with 40+ different charms). To complete the game to 100% will take another 5-10 hours revisiting all areas to find missed items and complete the colosseum, white palace, path of pain etc. For me this was the most tedious part of the game with one particularly annoying side quest that I ended up cheesing; and I only recommend it if you wish 112% the game. If you wish to 112% the game and do the pantheon of Hallownest ask yourself one question: do you like the combat when you finish the game (try colloseum of fools)? If the answer is yes, the most fun part of the game awaits that took me another 45 hours to finish. This includes completing some dlc side quests, but the meat of the game is a boss rush mode with 3 brand new bosses, and several upgraded ones. In my opinion this is the best part of the game and by the end I could beat bosses in seconds that took me several tries at the beginning of the game. At the end whether you are looking to explore a deep well realized world with interesting lore or are looking for a challenging and rewarding combat experience Hollow Knight is the way to go.

Hard to believe...

...how good this game really is. The amount of content and style this game packs slams all of the recent big titles into the ground for a fraction of the cost. As far as I'm concerned probably all of the big titles ever. Don't need to mention that if you're a fan of metroidvania and 2D platforming this game is a must, but even if you are not a fan this is the game that has the chance to convince you, I'm sure. OST is topped only by one game in my opinion, with the tracks being mostly somber and melancholy. Mr Larkin is a genius. Some of the moments in this game were among the most moving that I have experienced in a video game. Simply travelling about and fighting enemies is very satisfying and boss fights are unparalleled.

great but close to impossible to finish

This game is really good: -great artwork -super gameplay -metroidvania paths quite clear -free DLCs -often hard but still fair Except for one thing: godhome This last DLC offering the true ending is impossible. In it, difficulty is pretty much absurd and you have to beat it with less life mana powers and nails.

Oh my god, wow...

Let me first say that I'm not a huge fan of metroidvanias or any 2D platformers in general. This is something quite different. First off you shouldn't even being reading these reviews and by the game already at its absurdly low price of $15. The amount of polished content you get for the asking price would make AAA companies who charge $60 for their broken mess, shake in their boots because this game is a masterpeice in every reguard. The story is mostly enviormentally told which will have you wanting to explore its world even more. By the end I found myself mostly understanding the lore while also having me infer and guess at some parts while not being too vague. Also their's 2 endings, the not-so-satifying one, and the amazing "secret" ending. The Gameplay and controls are fine tuned to perfection while having some of the toughest boss fights that I've ever had the plesure of fighting while remaining fair. As you explore you find upgrades, NPCs, Bosses, and new areas that expand on the story. All in all this is by far one of the best games I've ever had the plesure of playing and while I own this on steam, I wish I'd bought it on GOG for the DRM free copy and help support CDPR. For the asking price of a criminal $15 this game is well worth the money and than some. Easily 10/10

Metroidvania Perfection

I have long been a huge fan of the "Metroidvania"-style 2D platformer action/adventure genre, and this is one of the best I've played. Beautiful 2D artwork brings a very atmospheric and interesting world to life that's exciting to explore, and tightly crafted combat and gameplay on top of it bring the game up to classic-level tier. This kind of dark and melancholy moodiness is really my jam, so that just sweetens the whole package for me. There is a bit of Dark Souls inspiration here too, for all my fellow Souls addicts. I haven't found anything yet to really complain about.
