The best murder porn ever.

I haven't played this chapter in English, but I suppose I am a fan because I learned Japanese in order to play Hou on the console. This is a truly groundbreaking game on every level. I'm not sure if I like it and it's certainly not a crowd pleaser. As usual you have the usual gal stuff but instead of getting into the "happy ending" you get a twisted, and dare I say it, love triangle murder story that ends in tears and a ridiculous big bang. Sometimes I hate the illogical route the story has taken. Sometimes the charaters feel so scripted compared to Umineko. Sometimes it simply bores me to death. But when the plot twists come, I've forgotten all of it. If you are even slightly imaginative like I do, you will spend hours digging up the secrets behind the charatcers and crafting your own theories. Mine are rarely right, but I don't regret a single second of it. A controversial 5 star minus one because it's not the console version. Definitely the best chapter so far. Umineko is better in every way possible, but Tatarikoroshi is the raw, unchained force of a good mystery and it's ready to tear your into bits.

The Reader May Cry

Another chapter in the Higurashi series of visual novels, it's another deeply interesting mystery that expertly plays with your emotions and expectations, ultimately leaving you deeply intrigued and hungry for more (and possibly emotionally broken). A fair warning, this and all the other PC releases are missing content present in the console versions that can do a lot to enhance the experience, though the 07th-mod can get them for you. Outside of that caveat, strongly recommend it for those into horror and uncovering mysteries, this should really be played after the ones before it though.

Here things start getting serious

This is a wonderful chapter, taking things way further over the dark side. Psychological horror spikes upwards in a genuine manner and the bad ending affects everybody, even people that had nothing to do with the series of freaky accidents, homicides and disappearances... Lets start! Satoko is the youngest girl who pulls pranks on everybody and sometimes injures others (traps etc). Ill mannered, a problematic kid. Up to now, we didn't cast a glimpse into her past, her inner self and circumstances around her. Well now, we do. She had to endure horrible child abuse and her only protector, brother Satoshi, run away. Her uncle suddenly returns and turns her into a broken thing, shedding misery all over her life. The nice times and the small ray of hope, built in previously with Keichi, not only vanishes, but is horribly twisted, not even undone. The rest would be spoilers. Before the main story starts, we have a small intro, during which a corpse is found. The presentation is so apalling and disgusting, that even veterans might have their stomachs churned. Especially due to the manner the bystanders talk during the event and their pitiful attempts at black humor, or cold/indifferent description. Our protagonist manages to survive, only to die later in a much more miserable manner. This whole crush hope entirely in the most sadistic manner ever, by killing somebody off right after you get the impression they are ultimately saved, is simply THE WORST! It feels strangely satisfying. And resolves the story adequately enough, in a convincing manner (no witnesses make it, nobody learns of the truth etc). Goes without saying, that a true fan of the series, should get all chapters. But especially this one, is a great addition to the story. I would prefer it way more, over the previous 2 entries. And the music used, started differring a little, adding much needed variety into the mix. I rate the whole series 5/5. You might call me biased, but it's great. You cannot go wrong.
