An artistic, unsettling game
Happy Game by Amanita Design is a bizarrely captivating experience that blends vibrant, cartoonish aesthetics with a dark, eerie undertone. It’s the kind of game that pulls you into a world where every image seems to be pulled from a surrealist nightmare. Despite its title, it’s anything but a "happy" game, delivering instead an unsettling yet captivating journey of guiding a character through strange, mind-bending obstacles. The visual design is a key strength of Happy Game. Its graphics are uniquely congruent with a horror atmosphere that constantly keeps you feeling uneasy or, at the very least, mentally off-balance. It's as if you're trapped in an ever-shifting dreamscape, where the grotesque and the adorable walk hand in hand, making the overall experience immersive and, at times, haunting. The gameplay revolves around overcoming obstacles that stand in the way of the character. However, this is where Happy Game shines less. While the unfolding game sequence feels well-thought-out and progressively darker, the lack of guidance or clear interaction cues quickly becomes frustrating. Many scenes fall into a repetitive cycle, with players left to blindly click and hope for the best rather than being rewarded for their brainpower or deduction skills. While the randomness adds to the surreal and chaotic atmosphere, it would benefit from a bit more structure or at least subtle hints to prevent it from becoming a guessing game. Still, despite the frustrations, Happy Game holds intrigue. It’s fascinating enough to keep you playing, there's always a curiosity about what nightmare will unfold next, what new bizarre creature or puzzle will emerge from the darkness. The game has great potential, and with a bit more refinement in how it encourages users to think rather than simply click, it could transform from a visually compelling experience into a deeply immersive and satisfying puzzle-horror masterpiece. Brimming with artistic identity
Happy Game is a fascinating experience that masterfully blends the visceral and the childish in an organic, unforced way. Amanita Design and its creator, Jakub Dvorský, have done an outstanding job, pairing bold artistic direction with a tight pace that keeps players hooked from start to finish. The character designs and the atmosphere of the environments make the game visually unique and disturbingly captivating. While it uses mechanics familiar to the genre, it integrates them so cleverly that the experience feels immersive and fresh. That said, it’s a short game—but that doesn’t diminish its impact. If anything, it plays like a brief yet intense "interactive graphic novel." Highly recommended if you’re looking for something original, unsettling, and brimming with artistic identity.

Why make this?
Not sure who this is for. The art and sound design is obviously good. There's plenty of effective horror, and the game has an ironical cutesy tone that is amusing on some level. I just don't see the point. It's not for kids, but the adults won't have much fun with the simple puzzles. The game even gives hints which I can't find a way to turn off.
