Gwent always was amazing in the Beta version and changed alot with Homecoming. The game is still very enjoyable even it is not as complex as before and it's pretty much a new game. But the fact that the game gets better with every patch and the developer is actual listening to the community, shows that Gwent has a bright future!
You get a Free-2-Play game, which has an extremly rewarding system for the players and isn't even close to Pay-2-Win. But on top of that you get the best-looking card game with awesome animated premium-cards, which has no other game to offer.
Gwent is great. After 2 years of RNG grindfest that is hearthstone i found open beta gwent, which stole my heart and all of my time. Skill actually matters, the games are fun, the meta is diverse and the developers actually listen to the community,....mostly (*cough* Midwinter patch *cough*). Now there is homecoming. Its different than old gwent, that is true. I was also sceptical and didnt like the changes at first. But the more i played the more into it i got. They opened a lot more design space for them, the graphichs are better than ever and the game got back its lost complexity from before midwinter. For people that said the game is slow, they sped up the animations. All the bad reviews i see just say its different with no actual reasons why they dont like it. Give it a try and see for yourself. Trust me. If you dont like it after that, thats fine. Just dont listen to people with no actual constructive criticism.
The new Mulligan update is a great step in the right direction! Feels a lot better to play now with leaders balenced around provisions instead of mulligans. Can't wait for the new leaders and new card expansions!
I played the open beta for about 8 month and once "Homecoming" was announced to change a huge part of the game, I was sceptical, because I loved the version of the game a lot.
The first weeks in the full version were rough - the meta wasn´t fun and the few couple of really strong decks and some really annoying new tactics started to thrive...
So why 4 stars?
The potential of this version is high, some say higher than any version before. The deckbuilding got very complex and
the last patch reverted some of the changes to the mulligan system. Meanwhile we await the announced content drops and regular updates on new expansions, events and tweaks.
As of now, Gwent is a very free-to-play card game with big differences to classic CCGs/TCGs and amazing artwork and the Witcher universe is a great place for this sort of game.
I have been playing Gwent since the crash the server events. So i am saying this as someone who has played the game at its high and its lows and i all i can say is that Homecoming and Gwent is in a very good state right now. Do not let the negative reviews discourage you if you want to try the game out, as you can see they are mostly ( I say mostly since there are some valid comments) from people dissatisfied with how much the game has changed throughout the years. And unlike the beta this version has a bright future ahead of it.
The most F2P friendly game on the market,. It has a very passionate team behind it for example the new game director Jason Slama . With monthly patches and an expansion coming in March this game keeps getting better. I can recommend it to anyone who is interested in card games or the witcher universe.
