Yeehaw! A fun western game.

A fun western with a decent story and some fun side missions. There are plenty of varied missions to do. It has great action in it which will happen both off and on the horse. I will let you know that on hard difficulty already you can't take many hits at all before you die. 2-3 and you are gone. Just a heads up if you wonder how difficult it is and you still have insane if you feel like more punishment is needed. Had a great time with the open world and while you do missions here and there remember to explore a little to mine the gold(buy a pickaxe!) to get extra money. You can upgrade your weapons to do more damage and more. Who doesn't want to be the law in a town and dealing with the criminal scum the only way they know. Some side missions are pure cowboy work. Hearding cattle and so on. Had great fun with the game.

Nostalgic fun, but shows it's age a bit

Someone said this is Red Dead 1 on ps2 hardware... Red Dead "1" WAS a ps2 game; Red Dead Redemption is not Red Dead 1; Red Dead Revolver is, and was a ps2 title, and predates this... But I digress. (would LOVE to see that come to GOG at some point) This was a decent game from it's era. If you have nostalgia for it, you'll have a good time reliving your memories from over a decade and a half ago. Otherwise, it's nothing special. It's still a fun time, it just shows it's age a little bit. I will say the cinematics for the time are pretty damn good, as is the voice acting.

Xbox 360-era Classic

The original development is on the Xbox 360 and also on the original Xbox. I also prefer to play it on my Xbox 360 since the PC port isn't quite as good. The graphics and controls are significantly better on the Xbox 360. But it's okay for a PC game and is still fun on my Rog Ally. But if you're not on the go and playing at home, I strongly recommend the much better Xbox 360 version.

Excellent, but short, western adventure!

Story: Like a good 90s action movie; some great set pieces, memorable characters, and all the subtlety of a cannon blast. Gameplay: Fun and straightforward, with a decent variety of actvitites; the controls don't get in the way. Voice acting: Superb cast; arguably the best from the era. Soundtrack: Atmospheric and stirring, but limited. Graphics and scale: On par with other games from the mids-00s. It takes some time to get used to the crunchiness, but it's aged well, and the clever use of geometry makes the map seem larger than it is. It made the most of the available hardware at the time. Negatives: First, it's quite short; good for when you're craving a bit of western fun, but don't expect a sprawling epic. Second, if you're easily offended by racial stereotypes, this is not the game for you, and that's all I'll say about that. Third, some of the GUN's prodruction design choices are at odds with its otherwise immersive world - looking at you, Skull Train of Doom! Buyer beware: Yes, this can be a frustrating game. While I personally haven't encountered any bugs with the GoG version, this isn't a modern game with regular patches and extended developer support; it is what it is, and sometimes it's messy. GUN also has some quirks, as standard quality-of-life features we enjoy today weren't a given in 2005 (e.g. quicksaving, fire from cover mechanics, follower AI). It's also worth remembering that most gamers didn't exactly consider this to be a AAA title when it came out; it's more like a cult classic. For me, the pros far outweigh the cons, and it's definitely worth checking out... when it's on sale. ;)

Old western done right!

This game is like playing - instead of watching - an old western movie. It's not a huge game but it's enough to tell its story. It's good for what it is, and what it sets to do it does right! Just don't try comparing this to newer games, as you usually don't compare much old movies to new movies, and you'll have a blast!
