Community Saved it --- Confirmed Awesome

This Game came out and was measured vs Oblivion. I think while Oblivion has it's own unique perks such as copy and paste towns and dungeons, in Gothic 3 the copy and paste is at least less obvious. The World is Huge and has 3 different Areas, Varant the Desert and Nordmar the Ice Wastes as well as of course Myrtana the Grass Steppe 08/15 in every RPG with dense/thick forests, lush grasslands and a corresponding Fauna as well as Flora. Nordmar and Varant corresponding to the themes, but going into detail would be just what I can say about Myrtana, swap some words and adjectives and there you go. The Game allows you to (finally imo) go your own way and really forge your own destiny, where G2 still kinda forced you around (even with Night of the Raven <-<) this game says "Lol let's go Full Bethesda". And so it does, the only closed areas are those where you need to be all the whiz with the corresponding Faction. Quest wise, Gothic 3 on it's own is insufferable and quite frankly, horrible and positively ridiculous. The Questpack solves this Problem. Another Mod - for Content called Content Mod - solves the problem and adds more items and a few other niceties, Gothic 3 on it's own is pretty Horrible. All Hail the worldofgothic site and other fanpages that developed the Community Patches and the above mentioned mods, Piranha Bytes was once again forced to Release earlier (way too early) and caused the Prior Abomination Known as "Gothic 3" heck, when I bought it and played back in da day, it already had the Community patch on it, and I was grateful for that. The Leveling System this time around doesn't give you +12HP every level, but rather gives you the option to Level this. With a pretty tight 10 LP per level (1LP = 1HP) and a very big Amount of other Perks and Skills to be learned, you're forced to do some Planning ahead quite often. The Story itself is very simplistic, but allows you to forge your own Path. If you're unsure wait for a GoG sale, but give it a shot.

Ignoring Bugs: A Great Open Action RPG

Yes, everyone who knows about this game knows there's one big problem and we'll get that outta the way. Bugs. Since GOG's version fixes that, I wouldn't worry about that though. Regardless, you're going to experience a very fun RPG that has a large world to explore (I believe along the size of Oblivion's world, maybe a tad smaller) with lots of interesting factions to choose from and a lot of fun to be had. While it doesn't do it as well as Gothic 2, it still does it very well and it is very enjoyable. The gameplay will last you hours upon hours and you a lot of replayability. Pick this up if you're an ARPG fan, but I suggest starting from Gothic 1, then go to 2, then come to 3. Sure you can get what happened before hand in 3, but it's better to experience it all yourself. Especially since all three games are very fun.

The Pleasure Is Worth The Pain

Since the game comes with the community patch already included, a lot of the nasty bugs have been worked out. The game offers a sizeable land to expore, plenty of skills to learn and some interesting quests (starting a rebellion and killing off the orc opressors of a city, for example). Where it becomes annoying is its level up system. To increase your character's skills (as well as HP and MP), you have to pay gold in addition to the learning points you've earned. Early in the game, it can become painful to have to decide between that new armor or increasing your skills. The game can also be quite difficult before your character becomes well developed. Despite the previously mentioned issues, the game is a rich and rewarding experience overall. If you're an RPG fan and looking for a lesser-known gem, give this a shot.

Beyond words

With the community patch you get a really big world, with treasure and secrets around every corner. It never gets boring. Best of all: There is a map, but with no markers where to find your target. If someone tells you the person you are trying to find is about 5 miles north-east near a tower, then you have to get your compass out and find it on your own. Awesome! I played Skyrim before this, and Gothic 3 is much more immersive. And for me clearly the better role-playing game. If you like being taken by the hand to find everything you need, play Skyrim. If you want to be completely on your own, play Gothic.

Not as bad as G1&2 fanboys show it to be

Yes, it it worse than 1&2. Yes, it has no heart or direction. But 1 out of 5 stars is pushing it to trolling limits. Fanboys drooling over G1&2 and dissing everything after them (G3, Forsaken Gods, ArcaniA, Risen 1,2,3) by giving them 1 out of 5 stars, is just plain trolling. From the beautiful vistas, to re-spawning enemies and from playable skills to the weapons and armors, G3 corrects many things G1&2 did wrong at the expense of lore, atmosphere and maybe continuation. Whereas G1&2 felt empty after you slaughter everything, G3 is a living breathing world. Whereas G1&2 had a single foresty-germanic environment, G3 has 4 biomes from deserts to snowy mountains. Whereas G1&2 needs 3 playthroughs to experience the 3 classes (mercenary, fighter, mage), G3 goes to implement all 3 classes so you can multirole. Completely playable with the Community Patch, runs smoothly at 1080p at max settings and seeing Myrtana for the first time is exhilarating. Open-endness and scale is on par with Two Worlds games, albeit more detailed.
