Ghost of a Tale is an action-RPG game in which you play as Tilo, a mouse and minstrel caught up in a perilous adventure. The game takes place in a medieval world populated only by animals, and puts an emphasis on immersion and exploration. It features stealth elements, disguises, conversations with allies and enemies, and quests.
You’ll be able to explore the secrets of Dwindling Heights Keep and navigate its dangers. Tilo is not much of a fighter, so stealth and nimbleness are your allies when confronted with enemies twice your size. Talk to the characters you meet and leave no stone unturned in your quest to find Merra, your true love….
About the team:
Ghost of a tale is developed by a very small team. Lionel "Seith" Gallat does 90% of the art, design and coding. Paul Gardner is the game's writer and an experienced game designer. Cyrille Paulhiac does coding and develops tools. Jeremiah Pena is the game's composer, while Nicolas Titeux is responsible for sound design.

This is an example of an Action RPG without action and RPG. At first glance, it has a pleasant story with a crafty style (the authors approached it with heart), very good visuals, and well-developed characters. After the first hour, you realize that the only things the game offers in terms of RPG elements are dialogues and loot (only as a basic mechanics), and there is almost nothing in terms of action. The main and only mechanic is stealth. The interesting story becomes boring due to repetitive backtracking. And the absence of the role-playing element turns the game into a simple 2D quest. I don't mean to say that quests are bad, but Ghost of a Tale is not what it's marketed to be.
I have been eyeing this game for a while and decided to give it a shot. It was way better than I had imagined: I seldomly try to do everything I can in the game, but now I found myself completing almost all the sidequests (minus the ones I didn't find) and collecting nearly everything I could. The story had surprisingly much depth, where not all the "bad guys" were bad per se, or all the "good guys" people wishing for peace and harmony for all. What seemed like a game thematically simple enough for a child, gave surprisingly deep insights about world and people on different sides of politics, virtues and races. And not just that: all the characters felt alive and very well fleshed out. It made me really want to know more about their lives and thoughts and backgrounds in the world.
The game is also SO BEAUTIFUL. It easily outstands many games that were made with more resources behind the team, and sometimes I just had to stop and admire all the little details in the game. Finally a forest in a game that actually feels and seems like an actual forest! Amazing job.
I also have minor complaints: there were few gamebreaking bugs (got stuck in a wall couple of times etc), and also navigation through the keep was a fricking nightmare. I admit I am bad at finding my way through gameworlds even in simpler levels, but holy moly I never learned some routes at all without having to run around desperately trying to find a way out, even after ten hours of playing. Minimap or something could have been great help, even though getting the actual maps in the game was a fun sidequest on its own. In the end getting lost everytime I had to go to the shore or visit Faustus was more frustrating.
Overall, I can give this a huge recommendation. If you love fantasy, great stories, beautiful and well done atmosphere and cute critters, this is a game for you. I hope we get a sequel!
In nearly 30 years of gaming this was one of the greatest games i played. The graphics are beautiful, the story is heart-rending and the game mechanics are perfect. The fact that this gem has been made by such a small team is absolute impressive. If you are searching for a game that gives you the pleasant feeling of diving deeper into the story instead of making progress, you should pick this up. It's a wonderful blend of an adventure with stealth, RPG and 3th person action. Thank you SeithCG & team for this magnificent experience. PLEASE continue that story - for Tilo and all of us...
An absolutely charming stealth adventure! Playing it I felt like a little kid again, exploring dangerous but beautiful locales, discovering, using my wits to move about. The game isn't super challenging or long, but it has SOUL. If you are at all interested in the idea of a mouse bard sneaking and running around to save their beloved, you will enjoy the title and the world it builds.
Ghost of a tale is a wonderful game with a well built world. There may be a few bugs with the map or a bit of confusion on some quests but the overall game trumpts over any sort of issue there may be. However, as someone who doesnt have much drive to play many games through till the end, Ghost of a tale was some of the few single-player games that I've completed.
Recommended for anyone that enjoys a game's story or world building. Also recommened for anyone that's new to gaming as it has simple game mechanics that's easy to understand.
(The bugs foremention *With no spoilers to the game* would be some areas of the map if you hop over a fence or rock, you may end up falling off the world but luckly it'll just prompt a message to send you back up to the map without having to reload to you previous quicksave. You may also see outside of the map at certain camera angles in various parts of the map. I did have an issue with final reward for the honey quest sadly but it doesnt bother with the progression of the story at all.)
