Freespace 2

The game doesn't work on Windows 10.

You can only move forward, not backwards, not side to side, not up or down. I know there is a "cheat" to enable Descent Mode which allows all that movement, but then that doesn't allow going forward as fast. And rotating also banks, wtf? I got the source code for this game and found where it banks while turning, disabled that, and rebuilt it - now turning just turns, and if I want to bank I'll do so myself, thank you very much. Now I'm trying to enable side to side movement without killing the max forward velocity. I'm sure this is possible, but for now I can't see how people can play this game.

Playtime: About an hour? (tutorials + first mission and Babylon 5 tutorials) ==Intro== FS2 is a space combat game. You play through various missions in a linear campaign which involve protecting allies and/or fighting enemies. There are also dozens of mods that add new content, from new missions to total conversions. I used Knossos to install mods. Vanilla FS2 worked too but looks worse, obviously. ==Review== As a kid i used to play Fury³, Terminal Velocity, X Wing/TIE Fighter, Rebel Assault II and the like. FS2 is a similar straight-forward flight combat game. There's no open world, no trading, no wide variety in ships and weapons, no factions - just simple missions. It's alright for what it is, and it's definitely cool to install the Babylon 5 mod and pilot an actual Star Fury, but i miss the freedom and options of X3TC or even Rebel Galaxy.

i know that EVERYONE seems to love this game but to be honest it just doesn't DO IT for me. the first game didn't do much for me either, don't get me wrong...i enjoyed playing it but it never really satisfied that space dog fighter in me, and the 2nd freespace game doesn't either. the first game let you choose between running the game in software OR hardware mode, this time around it's 3D HARDWARE mode ONLY, also i was able to easily control my ship with my mouse in the first game, not so with freespace2 , you really can only play this with a joystick! i connected my laptop to my TV VIA HDMI and was disappointed that i could NOT run the game at my TV'S native resolution( so no fullscreen on your TV ). the first one had that FRED editor thing but BALLS if i could ever figure it out? this time around they have it again, haven't messed with it yet but i expect it won't be any easier to use than the first freespace, also i never really liked the large motherships in the first game and sadly they are not much better looking this time around, too bad they didn't hire some japanese modelers to give us some really kewl looking motherships hey this game doesn't suck or anything...it's just an OK game, but if they ever make a third installment then it will be time to hire some NEW TALENT because the guys and gals who are making these games just aren't giving us their best.

The flight controls handle like a pregnant cow. You also lack the ability to invert the x-y axis. Using the mouse to target your opponents involves MULTIPLE passes of your mouse over the pad, almost like your rolling bread dough. This one's a clunker. Save your money.
