Freespace 2

Even after playing new space combat games like Starfield or great older classics like Wing Commander Prophecy or Freelancer, Descent Freespace is still the apex of space combat. I would love to see a remake of this in Unreal engine, but even playing it back when it first came out, it was such an adrenine rush. The combat was smooth, the battles were long and challenging, and on a big monitor, it felt like you were in the heat of it. Man, I miss this game. This was the first combat game with true scale between fighters, bombers, frigates, cruisers and the Colossus class capital ships. No game ever felt like a real Star Wars type space battle than this, and no game since has ever lived up to it. This is the best of the best.

There are only a few space sims out that i enjoy alot. This is one of them. Unfortunately I have not had the pleasure of playing this games predecessor Freespace (and its expansion) however i am planning on looking into that myself. If you have ever enjoyed any space sim, this could arguably be the best. Personally it is not my favorite space sim (my favorite would be tachyon), however I would say that this space sim is the best in existence, if that makes any sense to the people who read this. Buy this game here and now. I remember looking for a retail version on amazon and it was over 40.00 bucks (only 6.00 here at G.O.G). Bottom line: BUY THIS GAME (even if you dont want to).

All 3 of my nephews and I love it. We played for countless hours and thoroughly enjoyed fighting the pirates :) I remember spending hours just flying to nowhere haha

The Freespace saga is perhaps one of the best told on the computer platform. Part one is a bit dated when it comes to graphics, but the story is simply HUGE and involving. The second part (FS2) has a greatly updated engine, now freeware in the form of Open Freespace) and nearly as good story. The total package lays the ground of one BIG scifi story and lots of action as well as fun. In my opinion freespace has yet to be outdone. So far nothing comes close. This one goes to the computer game history!

Freespace is a classic example of pure space combat. set in the future, you are a pilot working your way up different squadrons. helpful training guides for different ships gives you all the tips and keys you will need to know to be a great pilot. there is a deep story and a rich environment, the graphics may not be up to date, but offer a pleasurable experience. if you are having trouble installing the game go to http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html and follow the instructions. this is a great game and a must buy Thank you GOG.com!
