Lotsa Fun!
I did not play this at release time but just now. I was looking into cheaper racing games. Olden goldies are good choices for that. I am happy about the "old" graphics , too. Its realistic enough for me.

Steering in this game, its like a steereing M BF109.... its difficult, if you learn this ... its perfect.

Much better than Flatout 1
This is a good, fun and playable arcade racing game. It is challenging but not too hard. It’s fun to demolish the scenery and find shortcuts. In my opinion it’s the best racing game for Linux at the moment (in 2017). On the negative side, gamepad input is broken (on Linux with an Xinput gamepad) so I had to painfully map gamepad buttons to keyboard events with xboxdrv. You also have to launch the game settings first (either from the menu or with the right argument to start.sh) or the game will open in an ugly 1024×768 screen and move all your icons and windows, quite annoying.
