A classic still fun

This game was great when I was young and the Anniversary Edition made me relive this feeling. Sure, don't expect AAA graphics these days but if you are into classics, this one was a milestone. The controls are sometimes a bit unlucky and the game wants to be played slow even though controlling the protagonist - with all the fluid movement mechanics - wants to be played quickly (see it as a first draft of Tomb Raider, Assassins Creed etc. platformers). Also the difficulty is hard at times - even on easy. But don't worry too much. The Anniversary Edition helps in this case. The Rewind functionality lets you rewind some seconds so you can improve without restarting the level. I had 3,5 hours playtime with that (and using some rewind moments) so I guess it was surely worth the money. Give it a try if you want to experience a true classic. Leave it if you get annoyed by ancient graphics - even though that rotoscoping was awesome at this time (Same guy who made Prince of Persia etc.). Good platformer with some nice mechanics, challenging difficulty and a nice story for it's time!

Probably was a good game in its time

I can understand that why this game is revered by many retro-gamers. Graphics were pretty neat, considering the era. I did not get a chance to play this game when it was released in the 90s because it was not released in my country. So, my review may offend some of the hardcore fans as, my perspective is not governed by nostalgia despite the fact that I am a retro-gamer. The greatest issue I had with this game was that of pace of character movement and controls. Even the jump button does not work as expected (and this is my greatest complaint). It made me miss "Konami's Antarctic Adventure" (a lesser-known game you'd often find in 100 in one NES Roms but no one I knew ever played it) far more fun than this. At least, the its jump function was fun. Inventory system of Flashback does look cool, and indeed, I have seen quite a few recent games which are clearly inspired by the aesthetics of this one. But, I have to be brutally honest, there were several lesser known NES games which released 5 years before this game and which were faster paced and far more entertaining than this one. It comes as a surprise to me that this game was very popular globally in the 90s. Maybe its fanbase were the kids, who had too much time to kill. Well, we all have our tastes. Still, in my opinion it is a little overrated game. 8 out of 10 is the most suitable rating for this game. Neither less nor more.

A rare gem

This game is a proof that graphics don't matter, when the story is well crafted. That's how it used to be, when games had to bring joy, not spread "the message"..

Can’t recommend this version

This is a poor quality reproduction packaged in a Unity game. It includes new strange star-like things to collect which are not rendered in the same style as the original graphics - visually very off-putting and provide nothing of value. The video and audio filters ruin the original aesthetic of the game. There is an unskippable popup window when you start the game in order to configure display settings. This renders it impossible to launch from say Steam Big Picture, one has to minimize big picture, find a mouse, then click through - every. time. I. open. the. game. It also doesn’t work on Linux, which to be fair, is not advertised to work on Linux, however all my other GOG games work fine via Proton. No reason this game couldn’t. I really was expecting/hoping for just the original game, not sure why they had to George Lucas it into oblivion. I bought it on sale for ~$1 and think I over paid. On the other hand, the Another World port on GOG is of much higher quality, and IMO how Flashback should have been done - UX is good, display is configured in-app (not in popup window), works on Linux, game plays like the original. As for Flashback, I guess I will go back to playing the genesis/megadrive version via emulator.

Nie chowaj broni!!!!!

Uznawana za nieoficjalny sequel Another World. I nie ma się czemu dziwić: zgodność gatunkowa, obcy świat, skupienie na płynnej animacji i filmowych cutscenkach. Twórcy rozbudowali koncept słynnego poprzednika. Gra jest platformerem akcji, skupionym głównie na główkowaniu jak pokonać danego przeciwnika i jak znaleźć drogę wyjścia z labiryntu korytarzy. Nowością są elementy przygodówek, dialogi, zbieranie i używanie przedmiotów, korzystanie z ekwipunku. Mamy tu próbę stworzenia realistycznego, żyjącego świata, gdzie nasz bohater przyjmuje zlecenia pracy i podróżuje po rozmaitych lokacjach. Nie wszędzie musi walczyć. I to wciąż się broni. Tak jak klimat i rozgrywka. Trzeba jednak pamiętać, że to gra z zamierzchłych czasów i znajdziemy tu kilka nielogiczności a ostatnia plansza (szczególnie na expert) potrafi napsuć krwi, napuszczająć na nas mocnych wrogów. Każdy miłośnik klasyki wie na co się porywa. No i sterowanie. Nie zliczę ile razy zamiast strzelić, chowałem broń. Także za samą grę 4 i pół *. A jak wygląda "remaster"? Na pierwszy rzut oka wszystko ok. Mamy dodane nowe filtry graficzne, wybór klasycznej lub zremasterowanej muzyki, przydatną funkcję przewijania, wybór koloru koszulki czy trybu Dir Cut (dwie animacje więcej). Możemy zbierać street pointy, którymi odblokujemy specjalną galerię. Gra obsługuje pada z Xboxa. Wszystko to można dowolnie mieszać. Przy bliższym spojrzeniu okazuje się jednak, że te filtry tylko rozmazują obraz i lepiej gra się pikselowo. Filtr Bloom włącza się przy każdym uruchomieniu. Sterowania nie można zmienić. Tych street pointów nie da się wyłączyć, więc gra nigdy nie wygląda jak oryginał, a i czasem ich rozmieszczenie podpowiada rozwiązanie problemów. Ogólnie największą wadą jest fakt, że nie dostajemy (choćby jako bonus) DOSowego oryginału. Kilka razy zdarzyło się, że się zawiesiła (pomaga alt+F4). Cieszy sam fakt, że legalnie można pograć w tego klasyka i to polecam. A dzięki przewijaniu, dacie radę ją ukończyć!
