When Firegirl arrives on the scene, she only has a few minutes to save all the civilians caught in the blaze! Douse roaring flames, chop through obstacles and extinguish dastardly pyro-monsters, use your hose to boost your jumps and reach high places to rescue trapped survivors (and cats).




Respond to new fires in procedurally generated levels across forests, lavish hotels, trains and apartment blocks.




Hang out at the Firehouse between missions to upgrade your equipment and hire new staff. You'll need all the help you can't get to prepare for your next mission!

Interesting but feels unfinished

Firegirl is a game where you have mainly two objectives. Extinguish fires to and mostly find survivors that are usually trapped in the building. If you miss just one survivor, the mission is deemed a failure = no reward money. You get a heads-up before every mission how many survivors there are in the maze of a building. No return to previous areas once you pass through a door with a fire icon. The game is very coy with explaining you things, you have to learn on the fly. Seeing an exit, doesn't mean I can't continue searching the building (especially in the forest area that wasn't clear). To keep things balanced you can upgrade the headquarters, your gear etc.. Overall the game suffers from a small scope: only a handful enemies and four different kinds of stages. Most of them lack true variety or interactive challenges. The random level design can also be very punishing with your water reserves, only with upgrades does the game get exponentially easier. I really liked the look of the game, reminded me a lot of the theatrical presentation of Mystical Ninja 2 (N64) or Viewtiful Joe but in a beautiful sprite costume (wished the boss was done in that style too) The soundtrack consists of only a few tracks but they are very catchy and feel like something from the early PSX/N64 era. From the gameplay it reminded me a little bit of Luigi's Mansion dressed in a rogue like package. Whereas Luigi's mansion had a creative puzzle component to lure out ghosts first before you catch them. Firegirl misses an additional hook for the gameplay. I wished there were more creative ways to deal with the fires like detect gas leaks that keeps feeding the fire or solve puzzles to find survivors. It is unfortunately a bit one dimensional and although I had a lot of fun in the beginning, the lack of new ideas makes the game lose steam pretty quickly. I truly hope there will be a sequel with more fleshed out ideas & levels because on paper this has the spirit of classic Nintendo games.

Decent, but flawed title

Firegirl has a fairly good premise for the game, but it has its issues. +Good game mechanics, granting time for extinguishing fire monsters. +Award system for completing challenges, earning medals to power up your character +The 2D sprites are very nice, even with the contrasting 3D environments +Some levels have procedural generation to add some variety to levels -Parts of the prodecurally generated levels can be highly repetitve. -3D environment can make it hard to spot dangers in the level -Early game is difficult, it takes time for the player to learn the gameplay loop which may cause them early losses -Progress is very limited unless you can consistantly win at missions -Buggy: Random Crashes -Firegirl can get stuck in certain locations. -it is unclear when a cutscene is occuring after entering a level which may confuse players into thinking they have controller issues. -Rare bug in the train level may cause the train to leave you behind (This only happened once, but's a bad bug) -On the first encounter, it was difficult to tell where it was possible to end the train level. Overall decent game if you're looking for a short and sweet experience.

My favourite roquelite

Firegirl is a casual roquelite platformer. The game is divided into missions, where you will use your hatched and waterhose to move aroung burning buildings to save trapped people and animals. Between missions you can upgrade your equipment with the reward money. Game controls fine with an xbox gamepad, and the randomly generated levels are good enough. Finally, I enjoy playing a family friendly game with interesting fighting mehcanic without violence. (you fight flames, not people)

Better than expected

First off it runs in Linux with Lutris (Wine), though I had to lower some of the settings. Second, I used a PS controller and the default mapping worked fine for me. Tbh I didn't really like this game until I was 4 or 5 upgrades in. Basically, there's a hover mechanic with the water hose but your water supply is finite, so you run out very quickly at the start and have to wait for the gauge to refill. But after some upgrades you start to rely on it more, which is actually pretty fun to use. Presentation is very well done for a 2.5D game and I loved the synth-based music. It's a shame there's no soundtrack available for download as it's one of the highlights. The story is a bit nonsensical but it's whatever. It's not a central focus. The levels are randomly generated but are more or less the same each time you play through a location, with paths only branching in different ways. The main point of fun is in the upgrade system making it easier to run through levels. Toward the end it has a really comfy flow to it. Some other reviews have said that the game is too hard, but it actually gets a bit too easy after a certain point. The real score is probably closer to a 3.8 but I'm being generous because I liked the presentation and the feel of the hover mechanic so much. There's not a whole lot of depth outside of that but it was enough to keep me hooked until I finished everything. I would definitely play a sequel if they ever made one.

Infuriatingly difficult

which is baffling, because everything here works great; cute presentation, fast puzzle-like search and rescue (pro-tip: you're supposed to find the survivor and escape, NOT put out all the fires), fun soundtrack, but it's so obnoxiously unforgiving it literally feels like the devs sabotaged it on purpose. I don't get it. avoid.
