A satisfying turn based experience
Based on a rough mishmash of tabletop rules and video game adaptations, Final Liberation is a very pleasant turn based experience. The units are clear, building your own armies in the campaign is satisfying and the game flows at a decent pace. Local multiplayer is a lot of fun, though the game does suffer from some units being far too good and others being near worthless. House rules are required to ensure a good game. The video sequences are infamous among 40K fans but display a lot of heart, taking the material just seriously enough without failing to understand the sheer cheese-factor of the 40K universe. If I were to say anything negative, I'd say that the AI is generally poor tactically, though the difficulty can be adjusted to make it more challenging. If you've played games like Battle Isle, you'll know roughly what to expect. Lastly, the game will run on Linux under WINE, though a bit of tweaking had to be done. Proceed with optimistic caution.
