Did you ever want to reroute power to the shields, set phasers to stun,
or even eject the warp core? Well, now you can! In FTL, you experience the
atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a
dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with
multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down
your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape,
power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the
fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation
roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure
through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.
FTL's complex strategic gameplay allows you to give orders to your crew,
manage ship power distribution, and choose weapon targets in the heat of
battle. You will encounter unique alien lifeforms and technology. You can
upgrade your ship and unlock new ones with the help of six diverse alien
races. Be the Captain you want: hundreds of text based encounters will
force you to make tough decisions. In the randomized galaxy each
play-through will feature different enemies, events, and results to your
decisions. Each time you play another challenging session of FTL:Faster Than Light, it won't be quite the same.

Quick play sessions (from 5 to about 90 minutes) will allow you to add that spaceship commander feeling to any of your days.
An impending galactic war approaches and only your ship can stop them. You go about the galaxy recruiting people to aid in the war, upgrading your ship, battling pirates, escaping solar flares and getting into ship to ship combat. Against impossible odds you and your crew must make it...lest the galaxy fall into doom.
If you love rougue likes with a great theme, you will love this game.
I've been playing this in beta for a couple of weeks and it is fantastic. Keep in mind, it's a rogue-like so be prepared to die--a lot. I highly recommend naming your crew after friends, family, co-workers, etc. Makes for great stories later.
Definitely an A+ game.
From a simple dynamic, multiple strategies play against random pitfalls and luck. Your crew starts to gain XP and boosts as you get through challenges, and when you loose a crew member who is desperately trying to put out a fire in the weapons system, the doors are broken, and you have critical hull breaches and the ship is over-run by hostiles... it can invoke a real sense of loss. Game over in fact! Never mind, fire it up again, and next time maybe i won't try to rescue that crashed ship from the giant spiders?
I can't stop playing. This is so incredibly awesome.
I encourage everyone to try it, it has casual qualities in the beginning as well as a deep hardcore depth for strategy fans like me in late game.
One of the few games I could compare it to in this regard is Plants vs. Zombies, although I feel that had a way easier endgame.
Despite having not even beat the final boss on easy difficulty, I find this game to be one of the best I've ever played. Simple but endearing 2D graphics, random events and layouts with every new game, and intuitive yet challenging game mechanics keep me coming back for more FTL. I can't wait for updates and/or a sequel!
