Simple yet unique
I'm from Poland so I may have different approach since this game feels... "close" to me. I mean I can relate, I can still remember similar farms from my childhood, remember stories from my grandma... so it is another "layer" for me I may add an additional point "in plus". Overall - pretty nice! Not the best, not outstanding, not optimized too well, repetetive after some time, yet... just has this "I'll just finish this one more thing and am going to sleep" factor. I don't play many games of this kind so I can't really tell you if it's better/worse than something else, can't really compare the mechanics but one thing I know for sure: the unique setting, simple mechanics but in quite a volume, slow-paced gameplay which can sometimes surpise us with "oh daaang, I'm late to do this, this and that!" and this whole rural atmoshpere of a Polish village in that times - it all creates a mixture that keeps you sticked to the screen for hours and hours. We have hard work, blique surroundings, inhospitable household (at least at the beginning), unfavorable neighbours, depressing, almost melancholic story of main protagonist combined with challanges, farm management, making decisions which animal to have (no, you won't be able to afford all of them at once from start), which structures to build, crazy races utilizing tractor, horse, bull, your own pet piggy or my favourite bike race with a local priest xD we have it all! We are not left alone - there are some guidelines, tutorials, we know what and how to do. But it's our decision how to perform. Hunting? Great! But watch your rifle AND your ammo. Skinning animals - great! You got meat and furs, splendid! But it takes time. Wood? You can buy it but why when you can chop and prepare it yourself? But again - it takes time. Tractor and additional utilities to help you grow crops more efficient? Sure thing! But it costs a lot... you need to think, make decisions and plan accordingly. It's not like that you gonna starve to death as long as you have a water on stove and couple of chickens to lay eggs, however! Surviving isn't thriving! ;) You know you can do better and you just keep going - I think this is the whole "magic" of this game. Definitely an average title, yet at the same time definitely an underrated gem.
