Far Cry® 2: Fortune's Edition

One of the best fps game in the early 2000's

If you're thinking of buying this game, know this: Far Cry 2 is not a short journey. There is limited fast travel, respawning checkpoints, and practically everyone in the world wants to kill you.. really really bad. But if you're patient, you can enjoy one of the best games (if not THE best, in my opinion) in the series. The weapons are a blast to use, from the RPG7 to the M1903 sniper rifle; each of them offer a different way to approach your task, from picking off enemies from afar to setting ambushes with IEDs. Being forced to navigate the world by car and foot allows you to admire the beautifully crafted African environment, which always offers unique and interesting sights. The story may not be the most interesting of the series, but it is easily the most grounded. There are no eccentric and psychotic villains, just two sides in a nameless African civil war, and a gun dealer you've been hired to kill. There's no press "X " to be the good guy either. You do bad things for money and work on both sides of the conflict, like it or not, and in the end, no one is quite who they seem.

This game is so awesome! Not only satisfying gunplay and an interesting environment but also one of very few good looking games which actually works pretty good at less powerful machines! I highly recommend this game to just about every damn person who likes shooting at things!

I'll skip giving a detailed review and get straight to pointing out the single most serious problem this game has: infinite enemy respawn. Whenever you move a certain distance away from an area full of enemies, that area repopulates. The passage of time is irrelevant; if you were gone for an hour or a minute, everything will be reset as if you were never there. This means that you can never travel anywhere in peace. You will be constantly shot at by pretty much everyone you meet everywhere you go. Add in a level design that practically forces you to go through enemy-filled checkpoints in order to go anywhere, and you've got a recipe for a very fatiguing game. You never get a break; you're always either fighting or moving to another fight. My advice: invest in a grenade launcher and webbing to carry more grenades. The constant firefighting will be easier if you can just blow everything up.
