Fallout London is a total conversion mod made by Team FOLON® for Fallout 4 GOTY and requires you to own the base game on either GOG or Steam.
How to install and play Fallout London:
If you own Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition on Steam, please click here to access the installation's instructions provided by Team FOLON®. You will have to downgrade your version, then install the Fallout: London via our dedicated launcher.
Install Fallout London via GOG GALAXY and launch it.
Follow the launcher’s instructions, and enjoy!
A Polite Disclaimer
In typical imperial British fashion, Fallout: London will take over your Fallout 4 installation. Installing Fallout: London will make irreversible changes to the default Fallout 4: GOTY Edition installation. You’ll also need to disable cloud saves (as the save folder is shared between the game and the mod). If you’d like to play the default Fallout 4: GOTY Edition again, you’ll need to uninstall the game and the mod, and then reinstall Fallout 4: GOTY Edition.

Fallout: London is a free total conversion mod for Fallout 4, available to anyone who owns the base game and all of its DLCs. It is developed non-commercially by Team FOLON, many of whom are proud London residents or expats.

I love everything about the story and the aesthetic of the game, The FOLON team worked hard to bring this out and it's commendable and impressive. The game in its current state however is borderline unplayable. The game suffers from constant crashes, freezes, long loading times, quest bugs, etc. I would love to leave a positive response as I have great hopes for the future of this game, however I cannot justify it given my mostly negative experiences with how the game performs. Once the team releases an update fixing the game, I would gladly change my review.
Even looking past the ridiculous level of bugs, which I don't have space to list even a fraction of, this game fails to understand what makes a Fallout or open world game actually work.
There are countless walls to your exploration, both areas that are blocked off for no reason until you advance the main quest and literal walls, both visible and invisible, EVERYWHERE. I'm not going to try to speak for all gamers, but invisible walls is something I've found to be almost universally despised and not only are they used heavily, they're used in places that they absolutely don't need to be.
The main quest is very linear, you get minimal choice until the final act, and then you're frankly given basically no information beyond the superficial and required to make a choice on which path you're taking to the ending. Several times the story forces you to make obviously stupid decisions, and then rubs your nose in what a bad decision you "made".
Most of the side quests are just bland fetch quests that result in no rewards. One that requires you track down items at 8 locations, items which don't exist until you actually accept the quest so you'll probably backtrack at least a little, rewards you a handful of tickets and a ruff, the worthless cosmetic item you could find on every third beefeater. Many of them give you named, but not special, versions of generic weapons you've probably already found dozens of. I don't expect every quest reward to be awesome, but I honestly don't remember a single quest reward I cared about at all. Certainly nothing gear-wise that I was using came from a quest.
Even exploring has minimal reward. Lots of random structures with a handful of ghouls (sorry, commuters, which the game makes a point of calling them, and then never calls them) and some ammo. Woo. Found something actually interesting, like the crown jewels? Locked up, can't get them without glitches or console. Great design choice, players hate finding cool things.
. . . the way these mod devs do. This mod trivializes your time and proceeds to waste it in abundance. The entire quest line is one pointless and meaningless fetch quest after another. Not to mention the numerous crashes, glaringly bugged quest markers, pointless obstacles to navigation, etc. These devs had an opportunity to learn from Fallout 4's mistakes (which are numerous) but instead decided to double down on and exploit every weakness in Bethesda's game engine. You should definitely skip this steaming pile of excrement and better use the 50 hours of your life that you can never recover from playing this mod.
To even make this game compatable I purchased an additional copy of Fallout 4 on GOG. I've redownloaded and verified the game's file integrity everytime it crashes, which is usually about 30 seconds of game play consistently. It's entirely unplayable. I hope they release a bug fix or make the game actually playable. I respect the ambition but it's currently unplayable.
Took 6 hours to figure out that HBAO breaks it and that VRAM usage is astronomical, leading mostly to crashes for the vast majority trying to play it. I really tried to give it a chance but when you get gnarly stutters and the game is only using single digit percentages of you CPU and GPU, you know they've lost the plot.
A promising story, ruined by arbitrarily slapping 300 of other people's mods on it. The stutters just get worse the more I play. Thameshaven is a great example of trying to put 10lbs of texture in a 5lb bag. Never going to make it through 90 hours at this rate.
Simply giving us a heads up not to use HBAO and letting us know that FOLON uses 50% more VRAM than FO4 for a given setting would have ensured a successful launch and saved 6 hours of my time. But instead it seems like most people who have installed FOLON haven't actually managed to play any of it. Don't tell me this mod is free. No such thing.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
