The game has a cool idea, but...
The game has its moments, the puzzle parts in particular are really cool... but it has a pretty high encounter rate and a rather generic soundtrack... the 2D graphics are incredible, but the 3D ones are a bit generic... the game has its positive and negative points, and it's worth giving it a chance.

short and fun
this cute little games is a very nice callback to classics it did had some annoying parts like way too many random encounters but i really enjoyed it overall

What DLC Quest is to platformers
This is a fairly well made and humourous little title, that does exactly what it says: illustrates the evolution of console RPGs and Action-RPGs throughout the years, (mostly Final Fantasy and Zelda.) Were it cheaper (at least by half price) I would recommend it in a heartbeat as a gentler introduction to the games it represents, perhaps for younger audiences who haven't yet played these classics. Unfortunately with the game being so short, even though the concept is unique and the artwork is well done, I don't feel its a 10 dollar title. That's the same price range as Planescape: Torment, to put it into perspective. You could probably pick up many of the older games Evoland emulates for cheaper, and would be better to do so, as a fully fleshed out RPG is more satisfying to play. During a sale equal or greater than 50% off , I do recommend Evoland to console RPG fans like myself. It's a pleasant few hours that doesn't take itself too seriously.

seriously, what's with devs releasing a very flawed game and then trying to hide in "nostalgia" or satire gameplay of the turn based combat is so shallow, so bland and so buggy too in the 3D section after reaching lugai city you constently get engagement with monsters which clearly shows how poorly this game was developed for 2.50$ it's good for a few laughs but in the end it's not a game, it's a prototype GOG should stop publishing half assed games

Old gaming headaches are not fun.
I wanted to like this game, I did like it for about 1 hour. Then the game tripped and fell hard. Evoland starts out interesting, having a laugh about the changes games have moved through, The premise is you collect chests to unlock new "features" like diagonal movement or 3d graphics. It is fun in a "remember when" sort of way. However, rather than a guided tour, they make you relive the frustrating old days. So unfortunately once the actual game starts there is not much fun to be had. I stopped playing after the 2nd "dungeon" since I was tired of a poor camera, pitfal traps, and ranged enemies that I had to play the dodge and wait game with. The worst part was I could tell they would probably "fix" those issue by say, granting a better camera in one of the chests, but since the game was becoming a chore I did not see the reason to wait. The best way I could describe it is if one of those frontier village recreations had everyone is "in character" and they refused to tell you where the bathroom is because "That has not been invented yet" Its fun to note that 3d movement used to be difficult because of poor camera placement, not fun for me to get a game over because of it. Basically a cool idea, and to much frustration.
