The only clue you have is a hastily written note telling you to meet a stranger in the nearest town. Thus begins your first step into the wondrous and dangerous world of Eschalon: Book I.

Eschalon: Book I is a role-playing game game designed from the ground up to offer an experience not unlike the classics of the RPG genre. You'll venture through massive outdoor environments and delve deep into sprawling dungeons as you seek to uncover the mystery of who, or what, you really are.

This title was developed with the classic role-playing fans in mind. It sports an old-school feel, isometric graphics, large open-ended world, and classic cRPG gameplay mechanics, just to fit perfectly with your idea of how a computer role-playing game should be like.
  • Eschalon: Book I is a turn-based, single-player RPG that's carefully designed to feel like the great old school RPGs of the past such as Ultima or Might & Magic.
  • Choose from 24 unique skills to make the character you want and 8 base attributes that affect your character’s every action throughout the game.
  • A combination of randomly generated treasure and carefully hidden goodies means that no two games will play the exact same way.

good game, but quite slow

i like the to the point i completed more than 100 h according to gog. the only problem i see is that it's quite slow... almost too slow. every turn you can almost count the seconds per step of the character. when you need to move from one area to the other in the game you end up spending minutes just walking. quite annoying specially when you reach a point in the game where you almost clear out all enemies. except for that, a recomended game.

Fails on one front.

For it's age this game is solid. Feels, look, sounds and plays really well, in fact better than most of it's type today in 2018 . Your first hour in the game are very enjoyable, but then the big problem with the game starts to materialise. You can't do anything, the progression is far, far to slow. You can spend the first few hours running around in your underwear with just one spell to your arsenal. It's painful to watch that experience bar slowly, oh so slowly start to fill. I would imagine at the rate of progression I have experienced, you would only get to level up anything when you were half way though the game. Unfortunately because of this one major flaw the game becomes ultra boring very quickly. Shame, the developer done a amazing job on everything else in the game.
