gah damn

one of the best platformer/2D combat (i don't know the genre name) game i ever played. imagine a mix of Dead Cells and a hentai game, though nsfw isn't omnipresent. you control a thick goth girl who is stuck in a nightmare and you have to defeat several mini-nightmares with a scythe to escape. you can finish it in a weekend if you play 8hours (which you shouldn't). i personally finished half of it in a few hours. worth the price. had some performance issues but those were very rare and rarely lasted more than a few seconds. solid enemies and combat mechanics, and you can unlock all of the combat mechanics within a hour. had a boss bug where it just wouldn't move but it allowed me to progress so i won't complain lol. if you want a full porn game this is NOT for you

It's not very good

I love me a 2D platformer and I love me a good NSFW game and this one seemed to have good reviews and a mix of the two so I picked it up. Around four hours later and I've 100% completed the game and to say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I'll start with the good. The CG art is really good. Now on to everything else. The combat isn't that good in this game and neither is the platforming. Combat consists of just hammering the X button to spam out your two ( once upgraded, three ) hit combos until the enemy dies. You can also throw your scythe to stun enemies but it does so little damage and there are so few instances where you actually need to do this that for all intensive purposes combat is almost entirely just hitting X. Then we have the platforming. It's serviceable. It technically functions but I found it frustrating. The reason for which is how zoomed in the camera is. You move really, really fast. Especially when you've racked up a combo (which increases your speed) and it's often times not possible to react to a gaps or enemies off screen. This has led to frustrating moments where I sprint off a cliff or launch myself at 900mph head first into an enemy. There is also one level where the platforms you have to traverse are at the top of the screen, disappear and require you jump between them while attacking enemies while also not being able to see your character because jumping sends them off screen. The story is bad. You play a girl who is dealing with her sexuality and temper issues through their nightmares and dream cutter, the scythe in your dreams, is in a master-slave relationship with you and wants to reform you so you don't let your temper and repressed sexuality turn you into a wanton sl*t. It's a really simple concept that's told in a really confusing and oftentimes pretentious way. Not much actual H content here. There's something like 10 images. 5 of which are fan art. The rest are OK. Feels tacked on. I don't recommend this game.

100% completed, 14 hours, spoiler-free

This game is a work of art. The narrative and mechanics are intertwined beautifully, and despite being a NSFW game I'd say it's worth playing on SFW mode if you just want a good game. The narrative is inspirational, centering around the main character's feelings of self-doubt and depression. Though with only a few characters, the story gets complex and meta. Dreamcutter is very much a game with an artistic message, similar to indie giants like Celeste. The mechanics are air-tight and addictive. Level design is very purposeful: platforms, coins, and enemies are positioned not only to challenge you, but to teach you. New mechanics are introduced elegantly and the levels will make you a master. There are a number of challenges to unlock, including time trials and other genre essentials. The NSFW content is visual novel hentai, with much of the art done by community artists. It's not interactive but it is narratively important. All WLW, never "porny" but definitely hentai. I'd recommend this game to anyone considering it. Definitely for fans of Shantae, Celeste, and Hollow Knight. I'll leave off with a tip: you can farm for coins pretty easily at the second stage boss fight. :)

Amazing fun with a little bit of spice

The game tells a story about Haley, a girl who is falling asleep in the middle of the day and is unable to wake up. She gets thrown into a world of monsters and tries to get back. She finds a talking and seemingly magical scythe and uses it for combat but also for traversal. She can throw the scythe into a wall and jump on it to get to higher places and later in game she will also learn additional abilities for traversal which I won't spoil here. In combat she either simply attacks the monsters directly or she throws the scythe against an enemy again and again to slash monsters and to create combos which in return will make her faster for a short time. The game has 5 worlds each devided into several levels with checkpoints in it. At the end of each level you'll have to destroy a crystal while enemys keep attacking you and at the end of each world you'll have to beat a boss. In each level you'll find coins that will give you the opportunity to either upgrade your character or unlock certain challenges which when beaten will give you a galery picture as a reward. The mysterious and psychological story is told in VN style. The game also has an arcade mode in which the story is omitted and a timer is shown so that you could use it to beat your best time. During the game you will see some scenes that have explicit content in it (nudity, sex with a male and sex with a female - all told from a female POV) but if you don't want such content you also have the option to turn it off. The game is focused on the gameplay and not on the explicit scenes. The game can be played with gamepad or keyboard and you can rebind keys as well. Controls are intuitive and precise, animations and soundtrack are great and each boss is different and creative. The level design keeps surprising the player with new ideas and you can replay each level how often you want. Rather than being frustrating the game is simply just a lot of fun and I highly recommend it.
