Dragon Age™: Origins - Ultimate Edition

I played this game from start to finish on Xbox 360 back in 2010/2011. Completely beat it. To this day, I can't tell you anything about the game at all. Nothing. I've completely forgotten anything that happened other than the game being totally generic. I was never impressed by anything that happened. This is the only Dragon Age game I've ever played and it has given me zero reason to ever want to play any of the rest of them. Is it a bad game? I don't think so, otherwise I would have remembered that. However the lack of any recollection other than a feeling of generic-ness speaks volumes, in my opinion. If you're one of the people who considers this one of the all-time greats in the RPG genre then I have to question the depth of your experience in said genre.

Game is great, but - there is always a but - it is umplayable on Win10. When you get quite far with a story it starts crashing every time on save loading. You can load older saves, but after you progress further to some point, data gets corrupted and you end up with crushes only.

I found the game to be decent, some of the writing is funny although the combat wasn't as good as Baldur's Gate - which I've seen it compared to. However the glitchy final few hours took away from the experience for me, I was unable to load certain saves directly so would always have to load a very old save first and then load my most recent one. It often crashed fairly frequently between area, and to top it off the final cutscene just showed a black screen (with the audio) for me.

I'm writing after finishing my first playthrough (only origins, i have yet to finish awakening) and it was an EXPERIENCE. The worldbuilding, the characters, the gameplay... there isn't a single thing that I haven't enjoyed. Sure, sometimes I was frustrated because of how many times i had to reload a save after dying but that has nothing to do with the quality of this gem. I'm honestly glad I finally played DAO but I'm also sad I didn't give it a chance earlier. It's immersive and you actually run the risk of fallling in love with your companions, from Alistair, to Morrigan, Leliana, Zevran, Shale (oh, how i love her) and Oghren... Sten is an acquired taste but it's amazing to gain his respect. The romance is so immersive and all the mods (if you approve of those) can really make the playing experience even more customized. Major kudos to Steve Valentine, Alistair's voice actor because he did an amazing job. To think that I got this on sale and only payed it like 5 euros! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT, it's a must have for any RPG lover.

If not the best ever. Story, characters, immersion, combat challenge are all top notch, the best Bioware ever produced. They went downhill from this game on out, fast. However, if you want to really enjoy the game you MUST install some community fixes since there are some game breaking bugs that sadly never have gotten taken care of by Bioware, in Awakening especially. The search engine of your choice is your friend here, I strongly advice to take a little time and scour the Internet for those fixes. The game is easy to mod, and you´ll be rewared with an RPG experience of superb quality. Top notch.
