Dragon Age™: Origins - Ultimate Edition

I love this game. Everything that has been discussed in earlier reviews as con is a positive for me: micro managing, constant battles, insistence on customization and paying attention to what's happening in the log... it takes back all that has been present in mid 90s to early 2000s era crpgs and repackages it without much changes aside from some qof improvements. If you liked Icewind Dale 2 and BG2 you should like Dragon Age as well - it falls somewhere in between those titles as far as everything goes.

If you're into story-rich, well-written, interactive gaming experiences, with complex characters and development, look no further. This game has infinite replay-ability. It's now 2023, and people are still playing it. That said, it was designed in 2009, and some bugs were never officially patched; so I don't recommend it without loads of mods and customization. These can be found (free) on Nexus Mods. I also recommend the 4GB patch and large address aware patches. They prevent crashing, particularly if you want high resolution (more contemporary) graphics, more custom options, and more realistic looking characters and textures. If you're ambitious and frisky there's also the DAToolset. Unlike a lot of other games, this one comes with a programs especially for modding enthusiasts. You can even create your own campaigns and share them with fellow gamers. As other reviewers have aptly stated, there are some tedious areas. Namely, anything to do with The Fade. Get the "Skip the Fade" mod if nothing else. You'll thank yourself for it.

Dragon Age Origins is one of the finest, story rich RPG's around - like all the Dragon Age games. If you have even a passing interesting in this, dont hesitate - BUY IT. Story, story, story - and plenty of action, but character development and story are where this game shines.

DRM FREE!!! Great story. Party members you get overtime are truely amazing. Combat+pause is great. Challenge on nightmare is must. At least 100+ hours. I got original boxed version, Steam version and GOG version, do i say more. Only negative maybe is outdated graphics but for me not that important gameplay is so good i forget ugly textures sometimes. Easy 5 stars earned. With The Witcher 3 Origin's is my most favorite RPG i own on GOG.

Amazing: - Main thing for me: In the end, I was left completely heartbroken in the best possible sense. Not many games do that. I wanted more of one specific story, and thank god Witch Hunt DLC is included here. It let me say exactly the words that were on my mind for a couple of days after beating the main game. If not for this, it would be just a good game to me with its share of problems that may not be worth it. Instead, it is a game that touched my soul, made me care, identify with my main character, and MY LIFE IS BETTER because I played this game. - The lore. You can go as deep as you want to experience this world. A lot of it comes via reading the Codex though. - The cast of companions and different ways your relationships with them may go. Different people find different characters great, I am pretty sure you will find one that you will always remember. Bad: - Steep learning curve when it comes to combat. It was so frustrating to the point I was ready to give up completely. (Hint: look up some guides that will explain the abilities, skills, etc. if you keep getting slaughtered in every single fight. It's not enough to just click on the enemy and expect it to die.) - Grind, grind, grind. - Too many dungeons and areas that look uninspiring. - Overall story is quite predictable. - Bugs. Oh my god, I had such a bad time in Denerim: save files kept getting corrupted, the textures glitched from time to time, and the game crashed again and again. (Good old hint: Save often and in different slots) Good: - Some nice unexpected twists in the story. - Once you figure out how to combine different characters' abilities in combat, it can be quite enjoyable, despite the grind. - Good degree of freedom when it comes to solving majority of main and side quests. - You get to know the outcome of your important decisions. - Writing. I wouldn't call it amazing, but solid. - The expansion and all DLCs are included, so once you get this, you don't need to buy anything else.
