Among the best

As an old school fan of Baldurs Gate and Icewind dale I need to say that I was positively surprised by this game. Quite complex RPG with high level of freedom and close to perfection combat system is more then my initial expectation. Purely from combat perspective I would have no doubts to put it on my top 2 list (together with Fallout 1&2 turn based system). Where I definitely see a bit lost potential is story and side quests. Story itself is there, but feels like something which needs to be there to give it a meaning, not really to keep the gamers hooked up. Side quests are overall good. Problem is that you never know how difficult the quest is (comparing to your current level). Imagine that you pick a quest and after couple of hours you will simply find out that your party is simply not strong enough to finish the quest. My recommendation to really enjoy this game is to play it with the help of good walkthrough. You will still have a freedom of choice and you will also enjoy quite difficult fights without the need to drop the quest due to low level of your party.

Damn. Good. Game.

First off you really don't need to play the first one. As the tutorial level really summerizes the mythos quite easily. Secondly the game corrects a bunch of mistakes that the first game made. While you can say it's story related, the second game reaches deep down into RPG roots to make the game worth it through excellent character customization, class building and quite frankly overall fun with set pieces that don't feel like their the same. Quest design is better although the second game repeats the first game's mistakes at not really properly keeping track through markers and such. Thankfully there are guides to help you along the way; speaking of 'guides' the UI interface is much more understandable rather than clunky or old-fashion design. The terrible persuasion system of the first game is gone and replaced with basic RPG systems; meaning if you don't have a certain stat point in (x) you most likely won't succced. Also the companions are leagues better than the first in every way possible. You actually want to remember some of these conversations and experiences, that heck you really want to take them all with you. Voice acting and writing is top notch; alongside all of this is a combat system that is better than the first and the game is very well optimized. When people tell you to skip the first one; they really mean it. Divinity Original Sin 2 is leagues better in every way possible and worth it! I will say clear act 1 of Divinity Original Sin 1; get the basics and then jump to 2 for a much better experience all-around.

Not for Everyone

BE CAREFUL buying D: OS2. If yo are not familiar with tactical, hardcore, turn-based combat then this game is probably not for you. I wasn't and a year ago I bought it expecting it to be like Pillar of Eternity. Boy was I wrong. This plays completely different. More like a pretty chess board than a game and if you aren't prepared to spend 45 minutes on a fight thinking between your next move and a spending five minutes between actions trying to decide whether to drink that potion or finish the enemy off then pass on this one. If you're thinking, "Man, I've never played a game like that before, this might be fun." I almost garuntee you that you'll be frustrated when you start. The people who rate this game 4-5 stars are people who have played every Iso RPG on the planet, beaten them on every difficulty and rage when they are not "sufficiently challenged". What that means for the rest of us more casual gamers is that this game is freaking hard. Even on the easiest difficulty. I'm rating it 3 stars because OBJECTIVELY it is a solid game. And I enjoyed most of my 65 hours into it. But the final fight was a frustring 8 of those 65 hours and I played on easy. That's another thing, if you have look up the definitions of the level difficulty which are given names like explorer, tactician, etc. Then you know what kind of game you are in for. This isn't an easy, medium, hard kind of game. More like hard, insane, masochist. You will be Googling the answers to A LOT of the stuff in this game. How to beat fights, how to craft, how to finish quests, etc. Guides will be your power source. You're helpless without them. This is a game made for the hardcore. For the people who live in these worlds and want to spend another difficult 150 hours doing it all over again on the hardest difficulty. Now that you've been warned, have fun ignoriing everything I say and buying it anyways due to all the 5 star reviews that say otherwise.

Good game with a launcher within a launc

I did not play much yet, but I have no doubts towards the quality of the game. Previous Larian titles and available reviews give plenty of confidence. However, the Larian-specific launcher is a total annoyance. Especially since I run the game from GOG, which already is a launcher. Thankfully, Larian account is not mandatory, but that makes this second launcher all the more redundant and infuriating - because I always have to click through the menu of skipping account creation and launching the game. Very bad experience.

Galaxy required for launching

As title said, the game require launching by galaxy, if run by clicking executables (SupportTool.exe or EoCApp.exe) it will crash to desktop after like 2 seconds of black screen. Not sure is it intended as a form of DRM or just a bug (it has been around 2.5 years since the latest version 3.6.117.3735ptbr was released back in 2022 September as of time writing this review), but it is a matter of fact that the game would only run if I launch the game through GoG Galaxy, no matter it is installed through Galaxy or offline installer. I have contacted GoG support regarding the issue, but only generic advises were given (make sure that your Windows installation is most up to date, install the June 2010 DirectX runtime package, etc.), none of them resolved the issues. Given the current circumstances, I couldn't recommend the game to anyone who buy the game for the purpose of preservation like I did, as the game would stop running if GoG and its client software cease operation one day, unless something is being done to fix the issue.
